I have a four year old Dell Dimension 2350, Windows XP Pro, 1M memory. The system is running very slow. Any suggestions. I know it's old and probably need to get an new one....:cry

It would help, if we had a little more information, on your setup, but do you mean 1MB, OR, ONE GB- It would be a mirracle if XP PRO even loads, let alone runs on one mb

Sorry it's 1GB. Like I said the system is 4 years old. I've run McAfee anti-virus,Ad-Aware SE, Spybot and found nothing.. I've run some of those registry clearners(free trial) they all tell me I have 800-1000 errors. I'm not sure if this is just a come on to buy there product.. I also run CClean and Window Washer....

Have you done the basic disk housekeeping?
By this I mean clean up, defrag, How full is your hard drive?
Do the easy stuff before you look for more diffucult solutions.

If you now do not think you have been got at, or have not got a virus.
    Using 35 gig?
I have found that XP starts to struggle, if over 4gb of programs are running on it, unless they are carefully chosen, and compatable.(programs, not documents, photo's)
I would suggest that you have a look at the programs that you have, and see which are now redundant, - i.e , you have not used for 6 months, and gat rid of any that you do not really need. - use add and remove .
If you can get a tight defrag done, and you can partition your drive (I use Hyperos, because it does not interfere with the current syatem, but there are plenty of free versions) and create your other drive as a documents folder, then put all your photo's, and documents in that partition, you can then defrag again, and it will help your system run faster, as the operating system has less searching to do , and paging will work better.
