Thought I'd throw this out there to see if anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening....

    Windows XP - Home

During boot all seems ok, "Black" Windows XP screen appears, load continues,
"Light Blue" welcome screen appears and everything stops. I can't say the system "freezes" as I still have mouse movement but the O.S. stops loading and just hangs.

Any thoughts as to why this is happening?

    Thx

Have you tried booting in safe mode?

This will often help you diagnose problems.
Safe mode will list all files it is loading while booting, so if it hangs on a particular one, you might try replacing it with a good copy from disc via Recovery Console.

If it loads successfully into Windows, then you might try re-installing drivers, particularly for your video card. Here's a generic procedure:

    1. Right-click 'My Computer'
    2. Select 'Manage'
    3. On the 'Computer Management' window, click 'Device Manager'
    4. Expand the category of device you're interested in
    5. For each item to be removed, right-click and select 'Uninstall'
    6. Restart the computer

Next time Windows loads, it should detect this hardware, and re-install drivers using good versions from cache. Post back if you still have a problem.
