I have scanned this system from top to bottom , over and over... updated everything that needs updating... now suddenly (started yesterday) something weird is happening...
When I go to open a program ... Windows installer opens up and tries to install my QuickBooks ...this is already installed and running just fine... when I cancel the install it will also close down whatever program I was trying to open..I have to open the program repeatedly and close the install several times before I get the program open... so far it is doing this on my SpyGuard and on the Quickbooks itself... I have tried a few others but have not seen it happen on them yet... I would like to stop this before it gets worse...any suggestions on what to check?... I want to avoid a roll back if possible...

Right click my computer, go to manage. In Computer Management, look for the event viewer on the left hand side. Expand it out, look at both application and system logs...you are looking at logs with a source of MSI, installer, etc. Note what they are, and post back what they say. Double click to read a log entry.

Its probably easier to clear both logs, then startup an affected program and then review the logs again.

okay..did... I had forgotten that Sonic DVD creator did this to me as well and was why I never used the program...came preloaded on my DELL... I have an XPS 400 system with 3 gig ram and running XP with all service packs and updates... if that helps... deleted the old log and tried to open the quick books again...the event log is attached...took me a long time to get my quick books to stay open...confused

    This doesn't help.

I need to know what the information is contained in those logs. Pick any of them with a source of MSIinstaller.

Open it up, copy and paste the text inside.

really not sure what it is you are asking...this came from one of them..and when I go to the link they tell me they do not have any information on this problem...
    another will say:
Detection of product '{71EEA108-09C9-4D81-8FA2-D48C70681242}', feature 'QBCommon'failed during request for component '{B38D6088-4462-48CB-9D1F-C7B4DBBD760D}'
    for more information see.......

what am I missing? or am I just being too dense? attached are other logs that had a lot of errors...

Thats the info I am looking for (not that attachments). Do they all say the same thing when you open it up?

We are looking for a common culprit here...

Well...if they all say Product: QuickBooks -Configuration failed, then the fix is to reinstall Quickbooks...

Are you in a position where you can safely do that?
