XP Pro, SP, current updates, ZA, A^2, Lenovo T60p Dual CPU - 2.1 ghz, 3 Gb computer memory, 3 cent operator memory

In the last few weeks my normal system tray icons have started disappearing from the system tray - while the actual processes and function of the apps goes on.

First to go was my anti-malware icon. Next was my ClipSaver Icon. etc.

As I said, they still essentially work, but it's hard to do new or temporary setups without the icons. And, in fact, ALL of my anti-malware functions are accessed by right clicking the system tray.

Any suggestions how to approach this problem?

Right Click on a blank area of the taskbar and select "Properties" from the context menu. In the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window, under the "Notification area", is "Hide inactive icons" checked? If so, uncheck it and click the "OK" button.

Thanks but no. Hide Inactive is not checked. I even cycled it through checked and unchecked hoping to bump it, but no change.

Thank you super much. I tried the first one (disabled SSDP & Universal PNP) and my system tray is back to normal.

Of course I've saved the link in case it happens again.

It doesn't happen often that the first thing tried worked. I'm glad you have your icons back. ;)

BTW, do you have anything for when the keyboard keeps going totally dead???

The last time, a couple hours ago, it took 5 or 6 reboots to get it back again.

Me, I replace the keyboard. I have so many spare ones around, my first step is always to try a spare and see if the same thing happens. If it does, then I start wondering if the port is going bad. Generally, it is the keyboard. I've had a few go bad.

How much do you want for a couple ThinkPad T60p keyboards?

    I don't have spare laptop/netbook keyboards. I attach a PS/2 or a USB keyboard to those devices.
