System upgrade and suggestions!!

I want to upgrade my system but need come guidance.

1. CPU: (socket 775) Intel Pentium D 950 Dual Core CPU @ 3.4 GHz 800 FSB
   2x2MB L2 Cache EM64t
2. Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 512 MB 16X PCI-E
   
3. MB: GigaByte GA-8I945G Pro I954G Chipset LGA775
   
4. RAM: 3GB DDR2 Kingston Hyper X.
   
5. PS: NZXT PF-500 500 Watt Power Supply.

My first upgrade i want to be my videocard. I like nvidia and want to spend about $100-$175.

Second: Do i need a better powersupply?

Third: Should i upgrade to a quad core or will that be over kill for my current computer?

First off, the PSU you have is a good one, but I would consider going to maybe a 600 or 650, or above. That would give you plenty of 'headroom' for future upgrades. Secondly, Kingston makes, in my opinion, the best RAM available. But then again, that's all I have ever used in my builds, so that opinion may be a little biased. I have 2 gigs of Hyper-X installed in this machine and have never had a bit of problem with it, or any other Kingston RAM for that matter.

As for the rest of your system, well I'm not too well versed in the CPU or vid cards, so I think I'd better let that part up to someone else who knows more than I do.

 

adaM-, are you an avid online gamer? If not, then I'm wondering why you want to upgrade. You current system should be quite capable of running all kinds of software (games excepted) well.
