    Hello:

If you have read a few of my posts in the last couple of days, you will have noticed that I have uninstalled NIS and have added AVG, Zone Alarm, Crap Cleaner, etc. I also went into the registry and manually removed Symantec.

Now my computer will not shut down..when I select start and shut down nothing happens. So I have to do a hard return and shut the system down manually.

System specs: WIN Me, 600MHZ AMD, 12GB HD, 256MB Memory

Would removing any of NIS registry items affect the Windows environment?
Other than that, the system is running much better..

    Thanks

Just tried it and no. When I place it in safe mode, it goes into scan disk mode...and then when I cancel it, it looks blank.

    Odd????

Thanks, that is exactly what I am working on.

Also, I found files in my bootlog.prv that did not load. And interesting enough, it is a symantec file. Do you know more about this .prv and what is it exactly.

Here are the files that are not loading...can you assist?

    [000C3DA6] LoadFailed = C:\PROGRA~1\SYMANTEC\SYMEVNT.386
[000C3DE1] Dynamic load failed : [000C3DE1] File not found
[000C3E27] Dynamic load failed C:\WINDOWS\system\MRCI.VXD : [000C3E27] File not found

    Thanks

Try ending them all, except exlporer and see if it shuts down.

Guess what! I can finally shut down and restart no problem. After I posted to the board, I ran a scan disk and defrag and then it was fine.

Also interesting is this is the first time I have done a scan disk and defrag without going into safe mode.

I am hoping that maybe those simple 2 steps solved it....
