System would nt boot via usb cd-rom

    Goodday all
    kindly assist my laptop dell inspiron 1318 would not boot thru CD-ROM in course formatting. I v enabled USB- emulation still no way. THANKS

    Along with enbling USB boot, you have to set it to be the first device accessed or it will always default to your harddrive. You would do this in your bios. Something like boot order, priority, boot first etc.

    No USB CDROM BOOT option from the boot priority list, thats where my capital problem coming from , THANKS FOR THE REPLY APPZALAIEN

    If you do not have that choice, then you need a working internal optical drive.
    What are your boot options?

    Maybe not. I believe if he sets the first device to optical drive generically (cdrom boot), and boot to usb is enabled, it should find the drive on the usb as long as there is no other rom drive present. If there are two rom drives, it would go to the one tagged drive0 as opposed to drive1. No?

    It's a laptop, so it would not have two optical drives. I'm trying to figure out if the one internal optical drive is dead. I googled to be sure this came with an internal optical because not all laptops do.That's why I asked for his choices of boot options. I'm not sure but I thought that if the drive is dead, it would not be listed as a boot option.

    I have a netbook, which has no optical drives. It does give me the option to boot from an external CD-ROM connected by USB. This shows in my BIOS whether I have one attached or not.
