i had this problem one time before and i fixed it using a link someone gave me to use regedit to find a blank entry in the registry. the prob has come back again so i used regedit again to try and solve this problem only this time i see no blank entries. ive scanned for all spyware and viruses witn none found and i used a registry clean and optimize program from this site, but the sys32 file still opens when i boot my comp. so im not sure what step to take this time around. any ideas? thanks in advance os is win xp 2000 by the way this is the link i used the first time i had this problem and fixed it but i dont see anything in the registry to fix this time. heres the link if it is any help or matters http://forums.windrivers.com/archive/index.php/t-15613.html

You mean the system32 folder, right?

What is listed in your startup folder?

im at work at the moment so ill have to check that when i get home. you want the full list for start up as its listed in msconfig? or? thanks also yes its the system 32 folder . i can just close it and move on but i know its not supposed to just open upon boot so it kinda bugs me mostly.

Full startup list in msconfig would be good.

umm lol is there a way to copy and paste whats in startup? the normal copy/paste wont work and it would take me all night to type it all lol im a slow typer. how ever one thing i noticed in startup is there a box checked like all the others except there is no description at all as to what it is, its just blank all the way across. is there supposed to be something like this? just a thought.

    Hello ej25lvr,

I once had the same issue and found no errors in the registry either. As pretty close to an expert as I guess you can get, the poster Insomniac provided the solution for me in a post that is found towards the bottom of this thread. Carefully read what he said about clicking on the link and that your virus-protection software will advise you against running the program, but you have to ignore that and run it anyway. This is the link to that thread

Hopefully this helps you out. It fixed my issue completely as you can well see from my response.

Lets approach this from another direction. Boot to Safe Mode and see if the folder pops up.

    Make any hardware changes?

At any rate, go back to normal mode now, and check your startup folder under start, all programs. What are the contents?

no hardware changes at all i did it just a few mins ago in the startup folder under start there is listed winbar which i know what that is and a my websearch email plugin not sure what that is but i clicked it and it linked to a christmas screen saver website. my mother changes screen savers from time to time could that be the cause?

Possibly. Copy it to the desktop, then delete it from the startup folder. Reboot, and see if the problem persists.

ok copied it to desktop and deleted from startup folder but the sys32 folder still opened and its still saying i need to reactivate windows?

Ok, reactivate windows. While you are at it, open msconfig, go to the startup list, and disable all of them.

Reboot, and see if system32 pops back up.

ok i reactivated windows and i went to the startup list in msconfig to disable them all like u said and just as a gut feeling i only disabled the blank entry i mentioned earlier today below, i rebooted and the sys32 file didnt open its fixed i guess. i still dunno what that blank was i unchecked well cause it was blank lol. i really do appreciate your help any input as to what the blank could be?
