system_license_violation

i had a hard drive that crashed, and so i took a very very old hard drive with xp on it, and copied everything from the bad hd that i could. the bad drive had xp pro, the good one has xp home. i copied all of the program files, application data, and registry entries. i tried to enter in the registry entries after i put all the other files in their places, and then i got errors every time. it said it couldnt add some of them because they were open or in use or something i think, which made sense to me so i figured it had added in only missing information. and then i got an error about tampering with the system, and later restarted my computer. now when it turns on i get a blue screen and it says system_license_violation. so im assuming that when i entered the registry values from the old hdd that it tried to replace the product key or something, and now i cant boot windows. someone please tell me what to do.

 

Lets see. Xp Home and XP Pro. 2 different OSs.
Possibly from 2 different machines with different hardware and configurations.
No wonder your machine is going spastic on you. Just doesn't work that way.
Do you have the disks for either OS, because it looks like it's reinstall time.

 

i have the home disc, but i dont want to lose all the data on it.

 

if it makes a difference i made sure to back up the registry of the good drive before installing the registry from the bad one.

 

Could try a repair installation. Sounds like nothing to lose.

booting from the xp cd, brings me to a blue screen where it says "bad_pool_caller"
