When I start my new used IBM T-22 laptop I have to hit F-12 and select boot from hard drive so it will boot up. How do I make this the default boot mode? Thanks for any help, PK.

This is a bug that the manufacturer should fix for you. There might be more of the same errors. If it's brand new you should take the PC back to the store and have them correct it. Or make them give you an other computer.

Errors in the boot sector really is a VERY serious matter and you should not settle for help from a forum. You need more.
