Got some real fun it earlier this month when I went back to visit family. I told the guy to run... he didn't get very far! ;)
Anyone else do any shootin' with one of these .50 cal puppies?
    Anyone... .50 cal?

Shot a friend's a few times. Gotta wait for the smoke to clear to see what you hit. ;)

I have a .50 Hawkin. Also A Ruger .45 Old Army black powder revolver. Love shooting them both.

Used to have a .45 Hawkin, it was alot of fun to shoot. Do the 50's kick very bad? I remember mine didn't have the kick I expected, might have been the powder I was using, or I was shooting a .35 Marlin and a Ruger 7mm Magnum around the same time and was comparing it to them. Steve

Kick depends on the powder load, and the bullet grain weight. I have loaded them so that even a cannoli eater could shoot it,, and loaded it so it kicked me like a mutant Mule on steroids.

I may have been using a lighter load, it was the first muzzle loader I owned and probably being a little careful. Should have experimented a little more. Steve

Actually, I've found that a load that has just enough powder and bullet weight for what you are shooting, with the smallest amount of kick necessary for the results you are looking for, is a LOT more accurate, and a REALLY LOT more comfortable. :D

All this talk of blackpowder shooting makes miss my .44s one Navy Colt the other a Remington like the one Clint used in "Pale Rider" with the roll out cylinders (an early version of speed loading). You want to create a real big boom with lots of smoke try a blackpowder side by side shotgun...which puts out a big flash that lights up the area around when shot in the dark.

Mine was very accurate, I was surprised. Being comfortable to shoot is important, I finally sold that 7mm because it kicked so bad, just didn't like shooting it..... no fun and expensive. Steve

A friend of mine in Utah had a side by side 10 gauge black powder shotgun. He loaded it for me and I shot it once. One barrel. Handed it back to him when I came to, and could see again. :D

Silly unknowing me pulled both triggers...needless to say it bruised my shoulder, backside and pride....What a rush....but don't want a repeat.

Plus I had a .375 Marlin lever-action that would dislocate your shoulder if didn't hold it right and expect it. Nothing like a hunting rifle that you shoot through trees with at your target....no place to hide....muhahahaha....:D

A geek shootin' party??? You mean a party where geeks shoot stuff, right? Not where partying shooters shoot geeks??

If so,, I think that would be one fantastic idea!! Full range shoot. Rifle, pistol,, trap/sporting clays, A dummy set up for Kodo and his Ninja sword,, Target kitchen utensil throwing range for Wenchie, Long range Ban Button shooting for our distinguished mods,, Super Duper long range firing for our resident Load and trajectory astronaut,, We could even get a Rice Bike to hang from a tree as a target for the Harley geeks,,,

I'm getting a bit carried away here,, but it does sound like a great time. :)

I have a 50 cal replica and a walker 45 6 shooter. What a blast! I could periodically bullseye at 100 yards (rifle).

One of the best shooters I've seen was a girrrrrrl....she would out shoot any male that challenged her using a rifle or pistol....would want to piss her off...

Yeah, but I hate that with these guns and other Mossberg bullpup 12 gauge shotgun we used to have that you can't use your left arm for about 3 days afterwards!
You can call me "eagle eye" ;)

did you really want to piss her off like you said in your post????? :D

Hey "eagle eye" (couldn't resist...:D ) my wife is no marksman but her first shot is lethal....in a real life scenario that's all you get most times....glad she's on my side.

I have a marksman rating with both rifle, and revolver. In amatuer trap, I have an average of 95 out of 100.

    C'mon Mangowoman,, Let's see what you got,, ;) :D

I had the pleasure of firing quite a few weapons. I never did shoot something like the one pictured above. That must be real fun.

You wouldn't want to take me on (now, where are my glasses..).
Haven't done much shooting for a while, most recent was with son's pellet gun shooting at a bunch of balloons tied to a post! Got them all, but it wasn't fair, coz the ballons can't run fast!!

    Now, paintballing is fun too.:)
    and it's "eagle eye" "p

What I really miss is skeet shooting...when the clay pigeons are always in season....;) I'm no pro at it but can hold my own...I even used a single shot 12 with a ported barrel...<pats self on shoulder>

I've got a .50 cal Thompson Greyhawk. Lot's of fun to shoot and accurate as hell once you get used to "click" *pause* "bang".

Remington Army 1858- That's the one I've been trying to get my wife to let me get. I want a pistol, but not one that isn't easy for kid's to load. That is if they can get it out of my gun safe. And if I ever need it in self defense (I'd have to use my WWI bayonet or chucks or any number of things that would make a good weapon, because it would take too much time to slip in a cylinder), if I can't get the job done with 6 shots, might as well give it up anyway.

Actually no, the 50's have a very smooth back kick, well actually its more of a real good nudge. We only used 80 grain of powder, because frankly speaking, to use more more in there the excess would only blow out the end of the barrel, some of it more than likley would not ignite, and one risks blowing the barrel right off the stock. :)

I put a pretty good hole in the coffee can we was shooting at from 75 paces ( about one hundred yards). I pulled off seven rounds with this particular rifle, and there was no discomfort the next day. :)

Try shootin' one of those over here and they'd lock me up and throw away the key. They're a little paranoid about guns in England. :)

Check out the hood of the Jeep behind me, there's a Remington .12 gauge, and a remington .22. My brother brought his 9mm Ruger semi-auto just to spice things up a little. ;)

Ah, heck just think of it as more of an exotic pea-shooter, I'm sure the Bobbies would understand that? and if they don't prey on their egos, and let them have a lash, Yes?

    Mmmm....thought not :(
