Can anyone tell me what's wrong (or anything appears wrong) with this picture (please see attachment), please? I don't really understand what all this means, but it looks to me like the top entry ("System Idle Pro...") is hogging resources (?). It fluctuates between about 70% and 99%.

This PC (XP Home) is continuing to running slower and slower, and this after I maxed out the RAM recently (2GB), and have purged MANY items including old pics and music, etc., etc., etc.

    Thanks in advance....

Hi Glenn, No attachment shown so I provided my own. ;) If yours shows anything similar to mine you've got nothing to worry about since it shows the system is about idle and therefore the idle occupies (in my case) 2% or 99%. That's what I think anyway.

If the above is wrong, please jump in whomever knows how to explain it better and/or correct me. :-D

System Idle is not a process per se.
If you have 5 processes each using 5% CPU your total usage would be 25%. System Idle would be 75% (the remainder that is not being used.)

Ok, thank you both, I can;t seem to get a screenshot on here. But something is draining this PC.

What should I look for/at please, "Memory Usage"? "Peak Memory Usage"?

    Thanks again...

Here's what I mean...some of these seem to be taking a lot of memory (especially compared to the screenshot that oma provided.

I'm I wrong? Is there much I can do about it, please?

Praying that THIS screenshot is SMALL enough??

This ALL seems like a bunch nonsense to me ('acceptable' file sizes for attachments, admin. timeouts, etc., etc., etc.), but then of course, I'm just an ignorant old man, who used his back to earn his bread...

You do have a lot of processes going on that seem to go quite high if I'm not mistaken. For instance, is the last box the amount of kb's used? Your Taskmanager looks different than mine and some pics are not so clear.

I don't know either what all those processes are but I googled for jqs.exe and found out that that is Java Quick start, used for playing games online, chat and viewing images in 3D.

It looks as if your jqs.exe uses abt 180k kbs? Not sure because the right side is cut off.

If that is the case and you don't use the above-mentioned stuff then just delete it as per this link: http://jsbi.blogspot.com/2009/05/what-is-process-jqsexe-and-how-to.html

Also I noticed that you have quite a few of ash...exe which seem to be running also quite high. Again hard to say with the right side cut off. These seem to be Avast.

I strongly suggest that you google each item that looks way too high in usage and do some research what they are and if you need them. (I'm thinking about processes that go over 100k)

If any doubt about anything, please post them individually so that we all may be helping you as much as we can.

Thank you very much oma. I apologize for the poor quality & size of the attachments...I felt fortunate just to be able to get something to finally post.

I will follow your instructions here, and yes, this is much more than I knew (or thought) to do!

Thanks again, and I'll revisit this thread if/when needed.

    Best,
    Glenn...
