hi all.... still confused most of the time. Very small church with an old ibm computer running win98 (SE don't know)
    98mb ram
It seems to run all the programs that they use for church business okay,,,,,,,,,but slow. I brought up the task manager and 9 programs were listed as running but none of these were showing on the desktop. I know what a couple of them are and not sure of the others.
question: in windows 98 task manager could these be processes or are they actual programs starting somehow when windows starts and can I go in and change settings so that they will not start with startup. Did I make sense?
I didn't have enough time to spend going into other diagnostics, ie. device manager, etc to check on things, it just seemed strange that all these were listed as running. took a screenshot and will try and post it.http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=8978&stc=1

Maybe this isn't the right forum, but was wondering whatever happened to HASSELBLAD? Always got straight info from.

This is very simple all you have to do is goto Start > Run > type in msconfig > find the startup tab and uncheck the ones you do not want to start up with windows. hit ok and it will ask you to restart.

at a rough guess, i reckon Kodakimg, Stimon and Onetouchmon is to do with scanning, imaging device, Msmsg is something do do with instant messaging, Alunotify antivirus, security proggie

surely 98mb ram would drastically reduce the speed of pc too.

thanks everyone. Haven't had the time to play with the church's machine and don't feel comfortable messing on somebody elses computer, but I'll try and clean it up a little. They don't have the money for a new one right now, but I thought I could get it running a little better for them. Forgot about going into msconfig. All they use this for is e-mail and some bookkeeping and simple word processing. It's old, like me, but still able to get the job done,,,,,,,most of the time. Thanks again for the info. just wish I knew enough to be of help to someone. Can't believe I was able to actually get that screenshot posted with no problems. Maybe there's hope. Was wondering whatever happened to HASSELBLAD, just haven't seen any posts from him for a long time now. Maybe he'll show back up. Thanks again
