Task Sceduler Problem

im running winxp,and for some weird reason task sceduler doesnt seem to work.there is something wrong with the service,i cant start it or enable.I went to control panel+scheduled tasks+advanced+start using task sceduler and it doesnt seem to start.i even went Administrative Tools+services to try to start it and an error messege comes up, it says error 1717:the interface is unknown.can anyone help me?

 

The Event Log Service has to be running to be able to start the Task Scheduler Service.
