Taskbar autohiding Windows 2000

Good day all!

Now, let me preface by saying that I've always thought that the performance of autohiding the Windows taskbar has been flaky, but I have a user complaining about it, so I thought I would do SOME research.

He claims that it often "sticks" (he's using Win 2K Pro)... which is normal when you click on the unhidden taskbar, stealing focus from the desktop/application...

Normally, this is corrected by returning focus to the application, but his continues to stick. Does anybody have any easy fixes?

The only time I find this happens in general in any version of Windows is after some kind of lock-up or crash. What I tend to find then is the Auto-hide tick box is no longer ticked. Re-ticking then solves the problem (until the next crash of course).

Now this may have no relationship to the problem you describe but I thought I'd just mention it.

 

Well thank you sir, that's a better suggestion than none... unfortunately, the user seems to be constantly trying new combinations of hidden and unhidden, always on top of other windows, and not...

I even saw it happen..after checking the box, it still stuck...maybe I should just GPO him into using a non-hiding toolbar

But, before that...does anyone else have suggestions?

 

the only thing i could ever do to get rid of it was keep clicking on something else. i know its not a fix, but i could never figure it out either.

 

Yeah, that's how it functions normally, but this users taskbar STILL stuck...guess he's SOL. Meh... doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks, MG!
