Are TB external drives reliable enough to use for server backups yet? can anyone recommend one they have used and found to be reliable enough for critical data backups?

    Hi Steve

TBH if mission critical I would be using RAID1 on a dedicated backup server, but I do have a WD My Book World at home which is networkable and 1TB and not failed in nearly 6 months of use and while I didnt you can use this external drive with Raid1 http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=279

from what ive heard from other net admins, tape is still widely used and is common for server backups. common enough to the point where if my server room burns down, a tape system is easily replaced for server restores. however, i have heard pros and cons for each. im still a pretty new net admin, so i cant speak from experience.
