hello everyone, and thaknsk in advanced for your time and answeres-

ok, my wife is appearing on tv, on of our local channels, and i want to record it onto a dvd. i have digital cable tv and internet, and was wondering if there is a peice of hardware i could you to like run my cable through my computer instead of my tv, and record it. i would just record it on to a vhs, but we dont have one of those fancy 300+ vhs->dvd convetors. i have a dell dimension 8300, gig of 3200 ram, win xp sp2, pnetium 4 3.2 ghz.

If you have an S-Video cable input/output in your tv and your computer, you can just use that, and download some software that will work.

That's what I was thinking, but I couldn't tell if the S-Video on the 9600Pro I looked at on Newegg had the input or not.

I think the 9600pro has it, it does on the ASUS 9600pro... you know what the s-video cable is right earl?

The S-Video port on the 9600 only allows you to output your computer screen on your TV. It doesn't allow capture. (Assuming it's not a 9600 All-In-Wonder)

No, you will need a video capture card. Something like askantik linked to earlier in this thread.

ok, so can i get that video capture card, and still keep my video card? i have 2 empty agp slots.

Yes, that card does not replace your video card.

Now, I'm pretty sure you mean PCI since I've never seen a motherboard with 2 AGP slots. :) AGP slots are brown and PCI slots are white. You probably have 2 empty PCI slots. These are what you'll need to fit that video capture card in your computer.

ok, im going to buy a new card it looks like. i checked on the card posted on this thread, and the max resolution was 640x480. i dont think that is all that good, but maybe i am wrong. so, lets say i get this interveiw that i want, and put it on a dvd, and then watch it. what will the quality be like? will it look like i was just watching it on tv? or will it be al litte more blurry? thanks for the help.

Regular TV (non-HD) is only 640x480, so it should be good if you aren't planning on taping an HD quality show...
