    Hello,
I am getting very frustrated, and anoyed because - Everytime i try and start it up, i get an error coming up saying "hl2 has encounted a problem and needs to close".
    Here is a list of everything i have tried;
    -Reformatting my whole pc
    - Running Regcure and RegistryBooster
    - Reinstalling steam and Team Fortress 2
    - Reinstalling Drivers
    - And installing lastest version of DirectX

Now this all started when my 300WATT PSU blew, and then i got a new one wich is now a 600WATT, and when i managed to start up my pc, i was getting the blue screen of death!.. But i have fixed that now, but im not sure if i have a problem with my hard drives or not? Since i cant run any games that have the source engine for Hl2, Eg; CSS, HL2, TF2 Etc.. But i can run other games. Please can anyone help me, i have been trying to fix this for months on end, and im having no luck :(

    Hi

What Windows version are you using (plus service pack if applicable)?

Do you have any yellow ! marks in Device Manager if so what?

When a Steam game errors with the message you posted, go into Event Viewer and at the exact time if the error, what is the error message if listed (likely will be in Application Log) and what is the faulting file?

What security software do you have installed, please name all? but you could try and disable them to test they are not hindering the game or Steam.
Disable Regcure and RegistryBooster, if they are running in the background.

Run the Steam Client and once run click My Games > Highlight one of them and click Properties then click Local Files and choose Verify Integrity of Game Cache

Possibly re-install Steam (make sure you have passwords/user name and keys for the games incase they need entering again.

    Hey,
I am using windows XP Professional. And yes i just checked my device manager and i have 2 yellow question marks on; Multimedia Audio Controller and raid Controller.
Urrrm how do i look at my Event Viewer in Steam? - It is "hl2 has encounted a problem and needs to close"
I have Avast - the newest one installed. Strange tho, when i scan with it, says i have no viruses.. But i know i do :S so i dont quite get that either.. I think i have many problems with my pc :( Since my psu blew, and had to replace ;/
And i have reinstalled steam many times, and done that verify integrity game cache many times also.

I hope that helps, Thanks :)

    Hi

Dont look at Event Viewer in Steam per say but need when Steam crashes to then look in Windows Event Viewer for an error at the time of the crash as this may hold the clue, Event Viewer is in Control Panel > Aministrative Tools > Event Viewer.

If you are having device manager issues it could be linked but dont know why to a PSU change, it shouldnt but as you have driver issues it would be good to re-install your chipset driver.

Wait, what? You have a virus on your PC?

That would explain some of your problems. Not all of them, but some. If you are positive you have a virus infection, go through the steps in this thread. Be sure to follow the instructions to the letter, every single one of them, since that makes it much easier for the malware fighters in the forum to help you. After you've posted your logs, be patient. The malware fighters are a small number of volunteers and they work threads in the order they were posted. It might take a couple of days, but they'll get to your logs eventually and they are the best ones out there... especially when you consider that they won't charge you a penny for the help. :)

    Hi

Yes a re-install maybe a good idea, just remember to backup all your important files and settings before doing so.

But try this HERE and Method 1 mainly and then install the latest Windows Installer from HERE
