Hi. My computer used to go wireless. I've not used the comuter in a few weeks after aa hospital stay and all of a sudden it won't work. The wireless fuction button is on but its telling me that it cannot conect. When I go to the wireless network manager there is no wireless network.

Where has it gone? Can I get it back? If so, how?

    Thanks.

When it worked before, how many networks would you detect?
If there were many and now it can't find any than it is likely the wireless card in the machine.
If it was only your network being detected before than it sounds like the problem is likely with the router/modem. Are the modem and router turned on and connected properly? Do you have any other wireless devices that you could test the network with such as an iPod Touch, smartphone, laptop, etc.?

    Hi. Right...

When I connected to wireless before it was at my sisters house and my friends house and at a WiFi hotpot.

At my sisters I picked up a few, some were locked, one wasn't and my sisters network required a password.

Now I have wireless myself and if I go to Start > Connect to, It tells me that there is a wireless connection but when I click on it, it tells me that it cannot connect to the network - to diag. Then if I go to wireless manager there is nothing in there, to diagnose the problem or find another. If I click diagnose, it tells me to contact my internet provider.

I can connect via WiFI with my mobile to my router.

Try hard wire connecting directly to your modem. Can it connect now?

How did you connect at your sister's house? Did she give you the password for her wireless connection?

Yes, my sister gave me the password to log into her wireless connection and if I connect with the ethernet it works but I want to go wireless.

I tried to system restore to a timeI'm ure it was working but it tells me i can't restore to that point.

Since you have now connected hard wired, what happens when you go to Start / Connect to.....

So you just set up a wireless network at your house for the first time, correct?
Have you tried to connect to other wireless networks (like your sister's or at a hotspot) with your machine since this time where it wouldn't work at your home?
If your other devives can locate and use your home network (you're sure they're useing your network and not others they can detect?) than it should be the machine.
Did you setup your network? Did you try to change anything? Networks can be very unforgiving and your computer may be using saved profile before a change occured.
My first step would be seeing if I could connect to any wireless network at all with your machine. If you can than it is your network and if it can't than the problem should be with your computers network card or settings.

Yes. I just set up wireless at my house for the first time but I have used this computer wirelessly before.

When I set it up the first thing I did was go to "Connect to". In there I can see that I have a wireless connection but when I click connect it tells me that windows cannot connect and to diagnose the problem.
When I click "Diagnose" It tells me that windows cannot resolve the problem.

So from there I went to control panel and wireless manager and there is nothing in there. It brings up and empty box so i'm not able to disable and enable the network connection.

Its all disappeared so is there any way to get it back. My system restore doesn't work either. It tells me that " The volume shaadow copy service used by system restore is not working" and to view event log but I don't know how to do that.

Go to start / run / type:
    cmd

When the command prompt opens, type:
    ipconfig /all

    Post the results.

Why are you using the Guest account? That may be your problem!! You need to be in an account with Admin. privileges.

This was another problem I tried (unsuccessfully) to resolve on here before.

The admin account isn't the admin account any more. I think that somehow, someone has deleted the admin account??? I don't know how to make the admin account get the admin privileges back. Even so I was still able to use wireless even with this problem until recently.

My thought is that the wireless went missing when the Admin account got screwed up and you can't connect because you are on a guest account. Very limited abilities.

What do you mean by this? Did you have a user account with Admin. privileges and it is now gone? Or are you talking about the built in Admin, account? Have you tried making it active? Does it exist in safe mode?

Can you go to safe mode and create another account with Admin. privileges?

admin privilages used to exsist but at some point i wasnt able to use them anymore, how do i get into safe mode

Reboot and continually tap F8 until it gives you the Safe mode options. Try Safe mode with Networking.

It should put you into the Admin. account. There you can create a new account and give it Admin. privileges. You can also check any previous accounts to see if you can change them to Admin type accounts.
