Tell me I'm being unreasonable

I'm venting, but I want to make sure it's justified. Right now I'm so livid I could easily chew steel and spit nails.

I was supposed to go away this weekend with my other half (who I've not seen in over a month, which means he missed my birthday). The hotel/casino package was from a friend as a birthday present for me, so it would have been almost no cost to us (other than food...which we'd get discounts on, and drinks...which he said we'd have a small bar tab available). We've been planning this for over two weeks. I was to leave here at noon today, stop an hour north of here to pick up my SO, then continue on way up north to the hotel.

This morning at 10:35am he calls me to tell me we can't go because they've overbooked the hotel. Can I postpone it to next weekend?

I took this weekend off (no pay, we don't have paid vacations), which means I'm losing right around $300 I could've made if I'd known even as much as two days ago I was going to be here. I was good with that for a basically free weekend up north with my SO. But I cannot do the same thing next weekend, and really not for the foreseeable future, especially now that I know this can happen at the last minute.

Am I wrong to be upset because it was a present, or am I right to be upset because it was a promise? I'm torn.

Id be more pissed at the hotel for overbooking. Doesnt really sound like its your SO's fault.

Yup....would seriously bitch at the hotel...let them know you took time off from work and it is going to cost you lost wages and demand a firm reservation at your convenience!! They may comp you a bunch of freebies if you bitch loud enough!!

Sorry to hear that, Sarge, nobody deserves to be dropped in the mire at the last minute. Like Tim W says, bitch away, a good bitch never hurt anyone, especially when the bitchee is in the wrong. Go for it. I'd be well smegged off, gift or not.

Not unreasonable at all. Hotel is lucky they didn't do that to me.I would still be up in the Managers face, chewing and chomping.

When was the reservation made just out of curiosity? If he's anything like my hubby, he would have called about 2 days prior:rolleyes

Depending on when info was recieved by other half, a deal is a deal in my book and I would always be talen to task if I didnt honour a date!!! but some things are out of our control as in the bookings and timescale, so how much time was OH given to book this and as a deal its not easy to book alternate sadly.

I know the frustration and for me I would if this didnt come off, would be personally thinking of an alternate, maybe localy that was good spot for meal and some fun to make up for it until later date could be arranged.

Do hope all works out Tibbs.

    Yeah Halo.
Kind of like a view of things to come, not as a consolation.

Did he have A reseveration? If so, then you're more than well allowed to explode at the hotel. Reseverations should absolutely be honored, regardless of booking. If they were going to be over booked, you should have at minimum 24 hours of advance notice.

I was apparently so mad I wasn't clear...wouldn't be the first time, won't be the last. :rolleyes

My SO had nothing to do with it. A friend of mine is a higher-up in the tribal council and he booked the package for us two weeks ago as a birthday present for me. But since we were his guests, we got bumped. Apparently they only keep five rooms in reserve for overbookings.

Instead, I drove an hour north and picked up my SO, ended up working the hockey game last minute (where I am now, he's at the bar waiting for me to get done), and we got a room at Motel 6 down here for the weekend. So I recouped about 1/3 of what I'm losing in wages, but I'm ending up spending about 4x as much as I would've had to had we gone up north.

But a reservation made 2 weeks in advance should have gotten some consideration, regardless of whether you were a guest of someone or made it yourself.

Yeah...they figure since he sits on the council he doesn't count.

We're going to have words later, trust me.

Tear into them. You might not be welcome later, but it would be out of your system.

At the risk of taking some fire for defending your friend, the only crime he committed really is that he didn't tell you this could happen. He might not have as much power over these things as he let on, and so on and so forth, and it is quite possible that what happened with your reservation was completely out of his control. He's biggest crime seems to have promised far more than he could deliver on, and if he was my friend, that's what he would be bleeding for: The things that he can control.

Most importantly of all though: DO NOT let this very crappy thing ruin the time you get to spend with your SO. You haven't seen each other in a long time, and it will be a long time before you can meet again. Don't let anything, no matter who or what that is, intrude on your time together.

I'd be pissed also. Not sure at who though...

Reminds me of an episode of Seinfeld.

"Car rental companies know how to take the reservations, but they don't know how to hold the reservations."

He ends up with some little POS.

I love at the end when she asks if he wants insurance and he assures that he does because he is gonna beat the crap out of the car.

Main thing is to enjoy what you have, even though you're paying more for it and lost some income. If you spend your time off being mad, the whole thing could end up being a bit of a waste.

But yeah, I don't blame you for being ticked off, I would be. Hope that you enjoy your time with your S.O., anyway.
