    Good Day,

We have a Windows 2K3 R2 SP1 terminal server. Two remote desktop users are connecting to the same print queue. One gets a response immediately. The other takes a good long wait. I've deleted and re-added the printer on the affected profile to no avail. Beyond that, I'm not sure what to do! Does anyone have any tips on improving printer performance, or ideas why it might be slow of a particular profile on the same machine?

    Regards,

    Milty

Good question ....anything else unusual with that one profile ...any problem with it accessing any other server files/folders? Same performance under different user accounts? Is he/she having to re-establish the connection when wanting to print (or is the machine, rather, have to do that)?
We you say remote ...are you meaning a distant location or within the local intranet?

Here's how this works: our company hosts the terminal server. It is connected to our domain, and is on our network. It serves a database application that Remote Desktop users at our child company (another domain) access over the internet. So the terminal server is sending print data to the printer at their location. I expect some delay with this setup, but I expect it to be consistent for each user.

Nothing else is unusual about this account. The machine is a fresh build. No problems accessing shares; we use group permissions, which both accounts are members of.

I'll check on whether the connection needs to be re-established, but I wouldn't expect so; the printers were added in the same way...

Well, Mada ....something is slowing down the info stream for that location ...curious ....(and as an aside, did you ever look at or use an app called Network Magic ....which allows printer installs and locks down the network ...and maybe handles some of those issue)?

You can assign different users different printer "priorities". Not sure where this is but i think its under the users profile setup in the domain account manager window.

This has been a weird one! I've deleted the user's profile to no avail, and installed UPHClean (a utility that will close the user's registry if they log off incorrectly - which is very possible...I'm sure they like those X's at the top of the window over the start menu's logoff)

What I have done is install the printer as a local printer as admin, and made the users use that. It seems much faster!
