i was asked this question today and i'm not sure of the answer, anyone on here shed any light?

"An Antivirus application upgrade from McAfee to Kaspersky had rendered a user’s pc unusable , taking up to 30 minutes to boot and logon. What would you need to check and in what order?"

    thanks in advance

    Hi

Is this an exam question? just curious as you dont do yourself any favours using others to do the work.

Rough outlign is to check Windows version, Add/Remove to check if you can still use the uninstaller for McAfee, run the McAfee Uninstaller tool, run a registry cleaner, check for left over folders from the old app, and reboot and check, but I personally would be uninstalling both fully cleanup the PC from left over files using above methods, then rebooting and making sure PC ran ok, then installing KAV.

But if this is a exam question, you'd really need to follow what the tutor has set out in the teachings as each one of us may have different routes to achieving this and none are right or wrong or definative answer. But two AVs are a no no and that will cause a PC to likely bootup slowly due to both trying to scan the same files thus taking up CPU and Ram etc
