I am new to this process, and I am looking for a solution to a problem. If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated.
I have had a GUI written ( in LabView ) for a machine that I am developing. I want to test it on a laptop, but it is far too slow to work with. If I run it in safe mode it works OK, but will not communicate with the simulator that is on another PC.
I think there are too many processes running. (62) Can anyone help me identify the processes that I can shut down.
    Thanks in advance, Peter

Hi Oystek and welcome to MGs.
You can try blackviper's site for information on Windows services that you can shut down. Pick the appropriate OS and there are multiple options in how much can be shut down. Also any software that you have installed that automatically updates, the updaters can be shut down.
If you want more help with installed software, repost in the Software forum and explain the situation and give a listing of your installed programs and someone will be able to help you out.

    Good Luck.

    Thanks for the input.
I have spent many hours playing with services.msc and config etc. Carefully following the Black Viper's instructions. Lots of fun. Fortunately no disasters. At first I only had limited success, until I was directed by another site to download Process Explorer.

Fantastic results. Could easily see what needed to be shut down. Then was able to run the GUI and the simulator and solve my problem.
I very much appreciate the input. It gave me the confidence to start making changes.
    Best regards, Peter
