I also wouldn't install a single program listed.

Especially the first one XoftSpy, I've seen that flag so many false positives.

Apart from the excellent free programs available, the only two programs I would consider paying for would be Spysweeper and PestPatrol.

 

Thanks Halo and Insomniac for your timely advice. I had d/loaded Xoftspy but not installed it. Now deleted. I thought it a bit funny that the 5 tested were not any of the more well known programs.

I'm very wary of a lot of so called scanners.

I installed one, the name I won't mention, and every time it started it would try to change my home page to about:blank!

Since that and a few other experiences, I now only trust reputable, established brands.

So he did, must have fell asleep at my keyboard and typed random letters! Actually I was looking for Star17's post that listed a number rogue spyware scanners and the discussion that ensued, but couldn't find it...

 

Halo thanks for the link. 184 suspect "dodgy" programs listed as at today. Worth a read by anyone thinking of trying a new anti-spyware program as I was. Bazza
