Don't know about this --- teaching very young kids how to shoot and all, but insanely cool at the same time. :-D

Holy snap. That is one huge gator.:-D I think it's great that he was taught how to shoot it seems like he was also taught how to be responsible other wise he wouldn't have responded so quickly.

Holly :crap! That is one HUGE beast! :eek I am glad he was taught how to use that gun... He sure looks like a happy kid too. I think kids should learn gun safety at home, PapaD. Better at home than on the street. Plus, with where he lives, they said everything on the ranch would either sting ya or bite ya, so he needed to learn to survive... I doubt if anyone will pick on him in school. rolleyes That was a good one!

I think its a great way of life, being brought up on a farm or ranch I would have loved it,I think its great that the boy knows where his food comes from and has no problem fending for himself.

Indeed I'm sure alot of adults let alone a 5 year old kid are thinking it was cruel to shoot the alligator without realising where their pre packed in plastic meat comes from.

If they think it was cruel then they have a serious problem. That's called survival of the fittest and that gator just wasn't the fittest that day.:-D

I'd like to see a follow up story here. Like the 'gator being BBQ'd. There was a guy who caught an 800 lb shark recently, do you think anyone had a taste or did it go to cat food and taxidermy. Bloody waste with these wannabe bwanas IMO!

It wasn't really fair struggle it was caught on a baited hook and would have been there struggling all night so it wasn't going anywhere, basically all he did was walk up and execute it:-D

They should do five year old boy vs 400lb alligator on deadliest warrior,I think they'd run out of 5 year old boys before alligators.

Now that is gun control, Texas style.

Ya right, a shotgun!?!?! For a 5 year old? What's dad been drinkin'!?? Next, if dad can afford it, is go to the mid-west game farms where they have all sorts of leisure activities. Like shoot the captive lion or leopard etc. My son is a BWANNA!! Whoopeee! Let's pop the beer open!!! He's a man now!rolleyes

This is so (expletive deleted)ing sick!:mad

    Not aimed at you Bill.;)

So maybe it would have turned out better if the gator had won? I'm not a member of the NRA, but I do believe the way to prevent accidents is to teach gun safety, not just hide them away.

I don't know what the stats are, but I suspect gun ownership in Texas is 80%+. Gun education should be manditory in such a situation.

BTW, overall a shotgun is the perfect self defense weapon. Short range, devistating results, doesn't go through walls, and they come in a variaty of sizes.
