    Hi,
I recently installed a fresh copy of XP Pro SP2 on my Dell Precision M60 Laptop. All driver updates went smooth (including some of my own manual driver downloads) EXCEPT for 1. My Texas Instruments UltraMedia Gemcore based smart card interface will NOT instal properly. I downloaded the driver from Dell's support website (http://support.dell.com/support/dow...RK_NBK_PNT_P4_M60&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=) but after extracting, installing, and rebooting I get an error saying that "An Error Occured During the Installation of the device: Texas Instruments UltraMedia Gemcore based smart card interface. A required section was not found in the INF" . NOTE: Error is the JPG attached to this post. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling multiple times, exact same result. Now, evertime I boot up XP I'm harrassed about how this hardware failed to install. Texas Instruments website doesn't help at all. Windows Update detected the hardware was missing drivers and attempted to install but always fails with the error code 0x800F0101 which I couldn't find anything about. Any help with this problem would be awesome!

    Hi

Have you install the Intel Chipset drivers? if not do so as they are needed for other devices to be properly aquired.

Also make sure your logged on as Admin and turn off your antivirus while installing.

Only other thought I have is to try and manually install this driver opposed to letting the installer do it, hopefully the DELL drivers uncompress themselfs to folder and file format? if they do then goto Device Manager and locate the device with yellow ! mark that maybe your media card reader, open it up and choose Update Driver Software > then choose Browse my computer for driver software and browse to teh location of the saved driver and open the folder if their is an INF file ( named gticard.inf if I have read the list of drivers correctly ) click on it and follow the prompts to install the driver.

    Hi,
Thank you for your reply. Yes I have installed the Intel Utility Chipset drivers from the Dell Downloads page. (link in first post) There is one thing that is confusing me. When I go to Device Manager, there is no Exclamation point, so it seems like all the components are installed. There are two entries, one called TexasInstruments CardBus Controller With SmartCard and TexasInstruments PCI 7510 Cardbus Controller. I tried updating the drivers for both, but windows says it cannot find a better match.

Download the Texas Instruments driver from your Dell link above. Now, extract the file (do NOT install it) using TUGzip or 7zip. You will now have a folder named 111550. Go into Add/Remove Programs and see if the Texas Instruments driver is listed; if so, uninstall it. Now go to the Device Manager; if the TI device is listed here, uninstall it. Now reboot. When the Hardware Wizard comes up, do not let it install the driver automatically. Instead, point it to the extracted 111550 folder, you might have to point into the subfolder called Windows, and then to the subfolder called tiinst1. Hopefully, when you reboot again, it won't pop up that bogus error again.
    Good luck!

Here's links to the zip apps I mentioned:
    TUGZip (my personal favorite!) http://www.majorgeeks.com/TUGZip_d4670.html
    7Zip http://www.majorgeeks.com/7-Zip_d4603.html
TUGZip integrates into the right-click menu so you can extract any compressed file with a simple right click! Very handy!

EDIT- I was just thinking.... to completely remove the current TI drivers, you might want to try a driver cleaner type of utility (check the Drivers download section here at MajorGeeks) or maybe a good 3rd party uninstaller (like Revo) that removes all traces of a program from the hard drive and the registry.

Thanks so much! The driver cleaner was the solution for me. Simply uninstalling the driver did not remove registry entries that the driver originally created. I googled the error, it seems to be common for printers. It seems to be common when a registry entry is corrupt or missing.
    Thanks again,
    this support forum is awesome!
