Hi all, love your website and have used it many times, but this is my first post.

I have a Word document with over 100 text boxes. (It's a master document, linked to about 6 other subdocuments.) The text boxes themselves are not linked together.

I was working in it yesterday, no problem. Today I opened it, and all the text in the text boxes only had disappeared. This is only a problem in this particular document. I have other documents with text boxes that preserve their text.

I am certain that there is no text. Already tried rebooting, reopening. Already tried changing the font color of the text boxes. There's simply no text to change, though.

I have also searched MS support forums and googled it. And called my company's India tech support vendor.

I have a backup, but it's in Adobe .pdf for size reasons, so I'll have to re-paste all the text if I can't recover it. Any suggestions? If I can't fix it, I'd at least like to know why it happened and avoid it in the future.

    Thanks so much! :)

I'm not an expert in MS Word but I can offer an idea at least.

You said "It's a master document, linked to about 6 other subdocuments." Are all of the subdocuments also in the working directory for MS Word. If their not, it won,t know where to find the text.

Thank you, shnerdly. (Any relationship to the radio co-host "Mr. Snerdly"?)

I'm not sure what you mean by working directory. The links from the master document to the subdocument are correct. That is, I can expand the subdocuments and bring up most of the text automatically. I just can't see the text that was in the text box....even in the master document.

Is that what you were asking?

Pardon me, for hijacking this thread, but PM me with the answer if you like, (so as not to upset the moderators), but have I come across 2 x Stan Freberg fans? Bazza

Looks like that's not it. He didn't describe my problem. Did try his instructions anyway, but don't have a folder called "cached" in shell extensions.

I may have found the problem though--not sure. I think I deleted the style of the text by accident (in the "styles" autoformatting feature) and that deleted the text. No way to verify it though. Thanks y'all.
