First I would like to thank chaslang for his article on how to use or rather why NOT to use MSCONFIG for "start up", directions followed, now have "normal start-up" again -

Now I have a question for the MG community, I have Spy Bot S&D installed, have used it for years and the latest ver. runs great with a fast scan, I also have Ad-Aware installed, but I am using an older ver. and would like to update but reviews of the latest Ad-Aware are not very good, slow and bloated etc...

So what else could I use in conjuction with SB S&D for cleaning spyware, maleware etc...

    Thanks

Well --- I use Spyware Terminator and use it's Real-Time Shield. I use SpyBot for immunization and Malwarebytes for regular scanning. Been virus and trojan free for over 5yrs. now and I can prove it with GMER. Also --- I use Avast! and Windows Firewall since I'm behind a wired router. It also helps to disable activex in IE and use only Firefox with adblock plus.

I'll suggest a few I use on a regular basis.

    Comodo BoClean

    SpywareBlaster

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

    Winpatrol

I use the free versions of each of them, BoClean and SpywareBlaster run silently in the background and you almost forget they are there sometimes. However, with each program, you must at least go at least one a week and manually check for updates. It wont do it itself like AV's or paid programs. I also forget that Winpatrol is there sometimes too until it pops up informing me that a something is trying to make a change to my start-up programs or other files. (you can also use winpatrol to control start-ups ;) )

For a Anti-Virus (you didnt mention using one) I suggest Avira Anti-Vir. I've had it for 2 years, and its never let me down.. I dont think I've even gotten 1 false positive (which false positives is semi-prevalent with both Avast! and AVG).

I think I remembered it all.. if not its cuz Im old.. and when your old they say your mind is the first thing to go :-D
