Okay, I guess you're wondering what you did, huh? Let's put it this way, you and Laura should go into medical practice together!! She gave me some very good suggestions when my son had 'croup.' Okay, back to you. Remember I told you about that 'mycobacterium AVIUM I had contracted and because of the word 'avium' you asked if it had something to do with birds, remember? Well, I thought about that and went to see a different lung doctor and you were right, I didn't get this crap from the air, or the soil, as the first doctor said. I got it from a bird! Okay, okay, you were partially right! Now the ironic part, we had bought our son a 'Pocket Parrot' about 7-8 months ago and before than I was feeling great. Coincidence, I don't think so!! When the doc told me that, my first thought was to come home and make some parrot stew:-D However, it's my son's bird and since the damage is already done I can only dream about how good that stew would have tasted!!

Thanks Tee-Cee for the idea and since it WAS you that suggested birds, may I have your address so I can send you the bill for the second doctorroflmao Seriously, thanks! I would have never thought about that.

Hey Stubby, I have enough bills now, thank you! roflmao! OK, the reason I questioned that, is because I have homing pigeons, and I have heard, that some people can get a lung condition from breathing in the 'dander' in enclosed quarters... I didn't know your son had a bird, but from what I have heard, if one is allergic to the birds, they will find out quick enough... Coincidence? Nah, just some female ESP!

Did your second Dr. give you any better advice? Like, maybe not to handle the bird maybe?

Well, I think Lara and I would make a great team, and I do play a mean "Nurse Ratchet" already!!!

I am sooooo glad that you found out what it is, Stubby, that is a RELIEF! Oh, I don't think you would like Parrot stew... Once you remove the feathers, they are all BEAK!:-D

    Good to have ya back!;)

So is your condition treatable Stubby?
Also could there be a coalition with your son's croup?

  18. TeeCee

    TeeCee MajorGeek

@ Darlene, he has a condition which there is no cure, but it can be controlled.. Really wild, for sure.. Google it, and you should get some info... I have heard of it, but not had it myself...

I doubt if his son's croup would have had anything to do with what Stubby has... I think he had the croup long before he got the bird.;)

Darlene, I'm afraid that Tee-Cee is right, and there is no cure for it and with medication it can be controlled. Actually, there is another option; I could 'go under the knife' and they would remove the infected area of my lung, but there isn't any guarantee that it wouldn't come back again. For me, that is NO option...I'll take the damn pill!!;) As for my son's bout with the croup, there isn't any comparison. My MA affects the lungs, whereas croup is a swelling around the vocal cords and windpipe and is most prevalent in children and is easily treated. However, it does scare the hell out of the parents when it first happens!! Here, this link to the Mayo Clinic can explain it better than I can http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/croup/DS00312

Not that I'm trying to sway you but having lung surgery was a life saver for me.
I had or have emphysema and spent a LOT of time in the hospitals. Couldn't do anything.

Are you on a constant antibiotic?

Darlene, that is really wonderful that surgery saved you... My husband also has COPD, and emphysema, and surgery is not an option for him... Not for a lot from what I have been told by the Dr's...

I am sure if it would help Stubby, he would have it done, but there again, he may be like mu husband, and surgery is not be an option for him...

Some can, and some can't. Life takes us into such twists and turns sometimes....

Thank you, I'm sorry TeeCee for your husband, it's really miserable not being able to breath.

First of all, that's great that surgery saved your life Darlene. And I sincerly hope that you're doing better. Let's face it, these forums would be pretty dull without 'your face around the place!!;)' However, watch your back Darlene because Tee-Cee is gaining on ya:-D

Ya know, when I joined this forum in '04, I didn't realize how wonderful a place this really was. Actually, the place is wonderful, but it's the members here that make it that way. The care and concern the people have for one another here is beyond reproach. The amazing part about it all is...IT'S REAL! Or at least I feel it is! The care and concern I've seen shown on this forum aren't faked, or 'put on!' It's as real as real can get;) It's amazing what a kind word can do for a person and now when I hear the term 'online family' I finally know what it means and am proud to be a part of it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to get all 'mushy' on ya, but I had something to say, so I said it!! So there:neener:-D
