I am marking time this morning and I feel very fortunate indeed. My 9 year old had a fever of 103.5 two days ago. Thankfully her fever broke yesterday and all is well now. It was a frightening time!

Wow...always scary when your child's fever spikes that high. :( I'm glad it broke and she is better.

The worst scare I ever had was when my oldest (a long time ago) woke with croup in the middle of the night. She had never had it and I had never heard it before.

    Thanks, LauraR. :)
The worst part of the incident was the feeling of helplessness as we waited for the tylenol to kick in. Glad your child got over the croup.

Scary, yes. I remember my first daughters first fever. It was 103F and she looked and sounded so sick. She was around a year old. My parents are medical people and they told me a small dose of children's aspirin and just keep an eye on her. She was only bad for a day then bounced right back. Young kids brains can handle the high temps way better than adults. If I had a temp that high they'd be chucking me in a tub full of ice.

    Hello sibeer,
Yes. It is very frightening when young children get sick (they seem to quickly get such a high fever which is very disconcerting)! I am happy that your child recovered quickly. :)
    Greetings BoredOutOfMyMind,
Thank you for the kind words and the warm welcome! I am very happy to be here!

I don't have children, so can't speak to that. I do have a cat who has been my beloved "child" for seven years now, and who vomited blood (along with all the other stuff) a few days ago.

After finding the "evidence" on the kitchen floor in the early morning, I gathered all of it up in paper towels so I could show The Guy. I got him out of bed, and showed him what I found and told him which cat it was from. I then got to have until then utterly unheard of experience of him calling his boss and telling him there is a family emergency, and he needs to get in to the ER, and he'll be at work when he gets there. I called in sick to my job.

We took the cat to the emergency vet clinic, and an hour, a full blood panel, and a few hundred dollars later, we went home with the cat, the test results, antibiotics, and prescription-only drugs against an ulcer. We need to give her all medications twice a day for ten days straight... but she is eating again, and the vomiting has stopped, so for all the blood she draws when we feed her the medicine, it's worth it. She's getting better. :)

    Mimsy,
Very happy to hear that your cat is getting better! I had a cat when I was a boy and I understand your feelings of angst.
