That Darn Registry(what is all that :*** and do i really need all of it?)

This is what ive got as far as a system(and yes i know i need more ram badly!)Dell 1501 laptop
Amd Sempron 3500+ 1.7Ghz
512 DDR2 ram
Ati 1150xt 256mb express
And ive got averag 43-46 processes runnin @ startup
now i know if i get more ram bam prob solved right? but do i need 43 processes runnin @ startup
Any help would be appreciated
