It is possible that a driver is causing an issue-
Someone else might come on to help, as I have to go off-line, but when stating the computer, try pressing f8 , and go into safe mode, and let ot load, if it will, and then right click MY Computer, click manage, click on event viewer, and see if there is a yellow exclamation mark on a recent event , and check what caused it, then you can click to send to microsoft if you cannot see what it is- I have known it to be a .net fault, and soundblaster in the past- also post operating sustem/ram etc: to help diagnose.

    Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack?

Indeed do try safe mode and see if you can run anything there, if you can run your antivirus software.

If you cannot run anything in safe mode then in normal mode hit Ctrl+alt+del and see if Task Manager shows if it does then click File > New Task Run and browse for your antivirus's executable file (for arguments sake I run Avast and my EXE would be "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\AvastUI.exe" yours depending on what you run will be in a different location) as this could as well as being a driver application issue, could be malware too.

What software have you loaded or updated before this happened?
    Do you run p2p applications?

When you say dark, do you mean that windows does not start and you are looking at either a completely black screen or a blue screen with the error
The application fail to initialize properly (0xc000005) on it?

Again, what service pack? There are specific references to this problem, depending on the SP.

    What anti virus?

Can you boot in safe mode?

    What make/model is the computer?

Please provide all the details you possibly can. :wave:wave

Sorry, I don't know what you mean by service pack? I have norton antivirus. It's a DELL windod XP home edition. I can't boot it. I have a erase cd that erase everything, But it won't read it. That's all the info I know. I don't know much about computers. Sorry,

    What model of Dell?

Safe mode might be accessed by tapping one of the function keys on startup. Could be F8 or F2 or F11 or Crtl F11, but we need to know the model.

Tower or laptop? Satellite, Inspiron, Latitude, Dimension, etc. All models.

What do you mean about an erase CD? Is that a recovery CD? Is there anything printed on it?
