The Application Has Failed To Start Side-by-side Configuration Is Incorrect Avast

I started getting this side by side error with avast. I tried to manually remove old avast licences from my c drive (basically anything avast after uninstalling) and when trying to reinstall, the avast interface/GUI won't open and I get the side by side error. I had to change some permissions to be able to delete the files left over after uninstalling, in which I did with Revo Uninstaller. I installed visual c++ files that seemed to be missing but that did nothing. I noticed I have 4 of the c++ 2013 ones installed. Probably not an issue but might be worth mentioning. I honestly think it has something to do me messing with the permissions in order to be able to delete the leftover avast files. I say this because when I right-click my c drive and go to properties and click the security tab it doesn't say my username. Maybe it never did. But it said "trust" something and I changed it to "USERS" to be able to delete the leftovers. I changed the c drive permissions to "SYSTEM" to see if that would help but it did nothing but give me a new error. "the application was unable to start correctly 0xc0150004". This was with uninstalling with revo and using the avast clear uninstaller as well and reinstalling several times. I attempted to reset the permissions by following instructions in the following thread... https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...t/9da312d2-c99b-4283-a275-e74d93dcc366?page=7 No help at all. I also tried to fix my issue with this thread on Major Geeks which didn't work either... https://www.majorgeeks.com/content/...by_side_configuration_is_incorrect_error.html I could only get so far following along with the video until I couldn't find what the guy was talking about. Couldn't find the "side by side" that matched the time of the error even if reproduced it right then and there by trying to start avast. I have windows 10 with all the latest updates as far as i can tell Something that was strange to me is when I tried to go to the Avast site it says "This site can’t be reached www.avast.com refused to connect. Try: Checking the connection Checking the proxy and the firewall ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED I was able to download avast free from cnet and while attempted to install it seems to install partially to where i can't uninstall it from revo or the typical way but its definitely in my computer and the only way i can attempt to reinstall is use the avast clear uninstaller. Would like to know how to reset the permissions as I think that Is what messed things up Don't know what else to do and would appreciate some advice and help Thanks

I'll tell you my experience with Avast, but yours may be very different. About a year ago, I downloaded Avast from its site, to be sure having a clean installer. But it wasn't clean. I don't think this was Avast's doing, since I've had good experience with them quite a while. But this time, when I realized something was wrong, I tried to uninstall it - and it left LOTS of stuff on both my registry and many folders. I couldn't even delete them at the command prompt. But my W7 doesn't have any true DOS, so that may explain it.
Many of the moves I made to try to get rid of it were answered by telling me I had no permission, or that a file I wanted to delete was "already in use," which it was NOT. I'm the only user, and am administrator, but none of that helped. The denial came from the malware in Avast.
I suspect that when I went to the Avast site to download, I was somehow switched over to a counterfeit site, from which I downloaded pure malware. It seemed to work at times, but it did lots of bad stuff. Its powerful resistance to being uninstalled was proof it was NOT the real, un-infected Avast program. I don't know if I could truly access their site.

You may, if you still can't get rid of everything Avast, have to consider saving your important data (I used a memory stick), and then Format C and avoid trying to install Avast unless you're prepared to have to format c again.
You may have noticed that on today's internet your PC can receive dozens, sometimes hundreds of files, and bunches of registry entries, without your knowledge or permission. That is the new normal, but what it means is that nobody can EVER have a clean system unless they never go online. There no longer IS such a thing as internet security.
If you try to contact Avast, and only have the faux site online, you'll get no help. I wouldn't know how to contact the real Avast site now. If you are lucky, maybe you can tell them their site is being counterfeited - maybe they can do something about it. It used to be a fine program.
    Good luck.

LOL...I am forever bound to avast here on a couple of systems. Tried to remove the program, but nope. I felt lucky to be able to reinstall it in a working form at the end of everything. Oh well it's at least a good program.

I have a friend who seems to have mastered finding remnants of uninstalled programs. He constantly finds drivers left behind and some of them that remain in use after an uninstall is run. He used avast for a while, and I think he found this to be the case with avast as I remember him discussing his frustration over being unable to remove a driver file. At any rate, I have seen confirmation of this being an issue many times on a prominent security forum on the internet with no iron clad solution. So I suspect that you are experiencing this issue but maybe on a larger scale.

Tweaking.com Windows Repair is the go to application for resetting the registry I believe. Just check the check boxes associated with permissions repairs.
