Hi all, this has got to be the most aggravating problem i have had so far.
I use ME and reverted to it as i found xp too problematic to use. 2 years on ME and no probs at all till now.
My son was using our comp. for listening to a radio station www.100FM over a week ago and the next day all spyware checkers, anti virus AVG and firewall Zone lab went down and i had to delete the lot and start again. Took a week to get any kind of protection working. But since then i keep getting blue screen telling us that Vxd files r corrupt and restart comp.
I have tried every trick i know and more and yet short of reformatting which to me is the easy way out.I want to know exactly what caused the prob in the first place. Must dash this will freeze again soon.
    R Vxd Driver files?
    Cheers Wild.

I agree, more specifics would be helpful. Odds are something was loaded, perhaps a virus, since many viruses tend to shut off other protection. As a side note, and you wont like this, Windows ME is one of the biggest jokes in operating system history. It is also not going to be supported much longer. XP isnt much difference appearance wise, but is a much better operating system. I encourage you to use XP and spend some time getting familiar with it, in the long run, you will appreciate it.

Too add, VXD errors can be extrememly difficult to fix, and are common in Windows 9x.

I would also strongly encourage you to go back to XP.

Just woundering, when you went to XP was this by upgrading from ME or was it fresh install of XP?
Best way for XP, is a Fresh install after a format, usually best to go with NTFS file system too, then install all updates including SP2 plus Anti-Virus/spyware/firewall utilities (gotta keep them updated too)

I'll recommend return to XP too!
I'll assume your PC meets XP's requirements, if your unsure post em.

I have now Xp home edition, and will do a clean install.
The blue screen message i get is......
There is a problem and error in 0028:c030aec in VxD
This was called from 0028:coo2f285 in VxD.

Just interested to know what this message means?

After formatting does the Xp disc install itself ?

    Thanks for your help.

VXD errors relate to hardware, and it's normally driver related.

As I stated, it's very hard to fix, and is common in Windows 9x.

Formatting and installing is very simple with the XP CD.

Prior to installing, you can just autoplay the XP CD and let it check your system for compatibility.

MA has written a basic guide HERE, and HERE is a detailed step-by-step guide.
