The HOME-END keys don't work

A few days ago the HOME/END keys on my laptop keyboard and my external base keyboard were working fine. Now they don't unless I use the CTRL key. I'm wondering if I pressed a certain combo of keys that I shouldn't have. Does anyone know how to reverse this? It's driving me crazy.

Welcome to Major Geeks. :major :cool
What make and model laptop? Have you checked your manual, or visited the FAQ section of the makers' website? Bazza

Thanks Bazza, and to all who took the time to consider this post. I'm completely confused at this time. The day I posted this inquiry I spent the next several frustrating hours online with tech support and the bottom line was I ended up updating my Bios. That did not work for the HOME - END keys, not even with the CTRL key. The next day they started working on their own. Until today. Today they don't work. I don't know where to go from here.

    What make and model?
Is it still under Warranty? If so, take it back.
Did you spill anything, at any time, over your keyboard?
Have you tried a tin of compressed air to blow out your keys?
Make sure, with compressed air, to fire the first few bursts away from the keyboard as there may be a touch of moisture first up.

Does an external keyboard work OK?

HP Pavilion8000 - under warranty for damage, but as far as tech support HP wants to charge me an arm and a leg to talk to a tech so everything has to be via chat. I haven't spilled anything on it. I don't have kids and my dogs have no access to it. I bought a base for this laptop and the funny thing is, the external keyboard is acting exactly the same. The HOME key will take me to the beginning of the line and the END to the end of the line. They work along with the CRTL key for a web page, for example. They work by themselves if I open MY PICTURES.
I haven't tried the compressed air; suppose I should try that. If you can think of anything else I would appreciate it very much!

Sorry I've run out of ideas if both keyboards are doing it. :cry
I'd get it back to HP as it ain't working properly.
Insist on telling them that BOTH keyboards have the same problems, so it other than the usual keyboard.

    Best of luck, Bazza

Thanks anyway! I'll try the air before anything else and see.

Why dont you try a system restore back to a date that they worked ok, has to be something that caused this. ed

I did...it was the first thing I did and it wouldn't let me, as far back as a month. I didn't think it could refuse but it did. Is this machine going nuts?

One last ditch effort, in your start-programs-Hp, look for application recovery tool, go in there and see if you can find a hotkey program or something that sounds like that, reinstall that program, it will overwrite the current and reset it back to the default settings.Other than that----Good Luck. ed
