The hunt for a decent host

Well, it's that time again. The flowers are in bloom, the birds are singing...and I need to find a host for my website.

The competition is getting clever. FatCow and Ipage seem very competitive...very sim- OH MY GOD, they are the same people!

But seriously, I tire of the hunt.
I'm getting kind of weary of being linked to reviews that are obviously made by paid advocates of the respective sites, many of which are on hyphenated-web-host-review-dot-coms and demonstrate a terrible command of English.

So, I've taken it to the forums. If there is a rule against soliciting web host advice, I don't know of it, and before anyone says it, I *DID* try the search feature (and the nifty "check-this-out-before-you-post" idiot-catcher). Perhaps the idiot-catcher is faulty, or it could be that I am a very talented idiot, but either way, I managed to escape its grasp.

And here we are.

So, what's a good one-year hosting plan these days?

Price is obviously a factor, but downtime / compatibility / platform versatility / customer service / Raw glut (# of MySQL databases, storage amount, etc.) play the biggest role.

Anyone here have a host they really like that they'd care to suggest? There was nothing "wrong" with Inmotion hosting when I used them, but I am thinking I could do better.
