Back in Feb 2006, I ran into a virus issue and the find group of guys over in the Malware section bailed me out of that mess. So, I came back for help on this issue.

I'm running a Dell Dimension 8400, Win XP Home Edition, Version 2002 including Service Pack 2. I've got a Pentium 4 CPU, 3GHz 145 GB Hard drive & 1 GB RAM.

I received a Blue Screen indicating an indeterminate problem. Among the things mentioned were:
    Check for adequate disk space
    Update drivers if prompted
    Check BIOS for updates

I think I have plenty of disc space with 120 GB of unused space.

I ran the error check on My Computer and it came up with no reported errors.

I checked Microsoft's website for any updates for my machine and I'm all up to date.

I ran the following programs in the following order:

    In SAFE MODE
    CCleaner
    Microsoft Malicious Software
    Ad Aware
    SpyBot
    Bit Defender
    Panda

    In NORMAL MODE
Windows Defender (couldn't run in Safe mode, had to run it in Normal Mode)
HijackThis (with file renamed to Analyse.exe)

    Attached are the following logs:
    AdAware
    SpyBot
    BitDefender

    Will submit Panda Log separately...

Here is the Panda scan log...

I hope I covered everything. Please let me know if I've missed something or just flat out messed up.

Haven't had a re-occurence since running the full set of diagnostics.

    Thanks,
    Tony D.

    Mental Note:

    Stay on target.

    Okay, back on target.

What exactly was the error for the BSOD?

If you can attach the .dmp file located within c:\windows\minidump (the latest file), then we can help out in troubleshooting this issue.

Ran outta time with my previous post.

A good thing do is the following:

Click START, then RUN, then type in: CMD press enter.

    type in the following:

    chkdsk c: /r (press enter).

During this process it may ask you, to attempt to dismount or mount this voulume.

Just say yes, yes, etc., until you cet back the the c:\ prompt.

type in: exit (enter) to return to the desktop. Reboot the computer.

Part 2 is now merged with this thread, adamato please stay in 1 thread which deals with the same issue, haveing threads intitles part 2 etc are most likely to disapear off the 1st page of the forum and cause some of our members who can help you to not spend their freetime hunting for it.... Cheers.

Halo, sorry about the dual posting. Hopefully, I won't have to do it again...

I forgot to post the error message in the initial thread. The stop message read: STOP:0X00000008E(0X0000005,0X804ECED2,0XAE070E78,0X00000000)

I checked my c:\windows\minidump file and it was empty. Everything must have been deleted when I ran CCleaner.

I went to the Dell website and upgraded my BIOS to Rev A08, the old rev being A02.

I ran chkdsk /r and everything came up OK. I received no error messages.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello everybody, I'm back...

I've had another Blue Screen attack and this time I've got the minidump file with me. I didn't run thru the protocal with CCleaner, SpyBot, etc. just yet. I would like to find out when is the best time to do so.

    Here is the error message:

    ***STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC000000C,0x804ECED2, 0XACB5F158, 0x00000000)

The message asked me to run thru a list of things if the Blue screen re-appeared, but I rebooted OK.

I couldn't upload the dump file as a *.dmp file, so I relabeled it as minidump.txt file. I hope this is acceptable. Please let me know if I should upload the file a different way.

    Thanks for your time,

    Tony
