The Java Coffee Cup: Why Is It So Slow?

I use firefox and IE6 on WinME with a cable nternet connection and anytime I load a page that has java on either browser (such as the NOAA weather radar loops) java takes a long time to load (1-2 minutes). While it loads, I see a white background with the Java coffee cup circle motion thing. I remember a while back java used to load a lot quicker for me.

Any ideas?

besides the fact that WindowsME is aweful...

Do you know which java you are running? MSJava or Sun Java? I highly recommend Sun Java over MSjava, its much smoother and quicker and interfaces better with java applets.

here is how to uninstall MSJava and move to Sun Java.

Click start --> run --> and copy/paste this in:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection java.inf,UnInstall

You will then get a prompt to uninstall, choose yes, and choose to reboot.

Then go and delete the java folder in \Windows. After that go to \Windows\inf\ and delete java.inf and java.pnf Next step is to search for javavm.dll and delete it.

Then uninstall Sun Java (if you've ever installed it, it will be in Add/Remove programs), reboot, and reinstall SunJava.
