Here is my dilemma. I have zero problems paying for an operating system. And I actually liked Windows Vista x64 (the copy I downloaded).

That being said, I had some problems which points out exactly why I downloaded a copy first.

My main problem was that upon EVERY reboot, my video resolution went back to 640x480, and my monitor (Sony 19" LCD) does not have drivers for Vista. Not sure what the problem was, but I couldn't find a solution here, Google, or anywhere else for that matter. It wasn't like I have some old crappy video card; I have an 8600GTS.

There were some other small things that I could live with, but that was a major jab for me.

Now, the problem being is that it is a hacked copy of Vista and therefore it is possible the problem is being caused by not being an OEM version of the OS (hence why I always buy my copies of my OS).

But since there is no trial version like with Windows XP x64, I have a hard time justifying shelling out $180 for something that probably/maybe won't work and I can't return.

There really isn't an issue at the moment because XP x64 can run 128GB RAM and everything else (no issues with the video card either). I can't really see any other reason to upgrade to Vista besides that and DX10 support.

But at some point, some damn game I am going to want to play (I don't see any on the current expected title listing for DX10 games) is going to require DX10 (and therefore Windows Vista).

So what do you think I should do?
