WinXP Home SP2. This "serious error" message comes up when the desktop loads, and continually while the PC is running. With the error report, if I click "Don't send", the error window closes for about 3 seconds and then it opens up again. If I click "Send", I get a window saying that the error was probably caused by a device or a device driver. When all this is closed, the "serious error" will open again after about 3 seconds, and it's perpetual. The Event Viewer has corresponding errors listed, with codes of 1000007E and 1000008E. I copied the info to the clipboard, and I've pasted it here:
I have done some research at the MS Knowledge Base and found very, very little info....
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, but that article refers to pre-SP1.

I ran the System File Checker (sfc /scannow) and it made no difference. I think I'm going to uninstall all the drivers, then re-install 'em. If that doesn't work, then I'll either try a safe repair install, or back up the data and format and do the clean install route.... unless someone comes up with something....

For the 8e error, the long thread here http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1059440671
seems to feel it might be memory. Either a bad stick or "for those who have dual channel ram : switch ram to normal non-dual mode". Someoen else implied the ps needs to be looked at.

I would try removing bits of hardware (starting with any add-on graphics card) and testing. After exhausting that direction, then remove drivers for just about everything (one type at a time) and restarting to test.

After some further investigation, I think it's either the mobo or the PSU. I was able to get rid of the recurring "serious error" message by reinstalling drivers. However, now the PC spontaneously reboots at random. I tried running a Super Antispyware scan, and the PC reboots in the middle of the scan. I have had the PC reboot while just idle at the desktop. It's rebooted while surfing. So I decided to run a HD diagnostic. I booted to the Seagate test disc and it reports that no hard drive is connected. Another thing I've noticed is that the color rendition on the display is too rich. This might sound strange, but all the colors are normal, but it's like they're on steroids. The colors are all very VERY bright. Just to check, I used a KVM to have 2 different PCs on the same LCD, and the difference is staggering when I flip from this PC to the other PC. It's not like the colors are not displayed correctly. Like when a video card has failed, you'll see green not being displayed but red is OK, or blue looks dull while red is fine, etc. This PC doesn't do that: ALL the colors are crazy bright and vivid equally, green is just as bright as blue and red, almost as if there's too much juice powering the on-board video. It's an EMachine C3070, and EM is famous for low-end hardware, esp. poor power supplies. So, I'll start with the PSU and go from there, but I'm still open to suggestions.

Swapping the PSU made no difference in the color display. I just now tried using a different Seatools diagnostic, and this one recognized the drive and it's in diagnosis at this very moment and we'll see what happens.... the hard drive and RAM are the only items in this PC that are not stock; the HD is a 500gb IDE Seagate, and the RAM is 2 x 1gb DDR generic. After the HD test, I'll run a RAM diagnostic....
