First off I am running Windows XP home edition pentium 4, 2.4 ghz, with
    512mb ram.

Some times when I am just doing random things on my computer (ie: surfing the web. burning cd's, or playing games) my cpu will suddenly reboot itself as if I hit the reset button.

When I log back on to XP it says"The system has recovered from a serious error.)

    Error signature:
    BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : BF8E3316 BCP3 : BA1F732C
    BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1

The following files will be recorded in this error report:
    C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER68b4.dir00\Mini061606-01.dmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER68b4.dir00\sysdata.xml

I am of course a noob and have no idea what any of this means that is why I come to kneel at the feet of the great geeks and ask for their salvation. Anyone that can possibly help I will greatly appreciate your insight.

When you receive the message that Windows has recovered from a serious error, is there a link? Whenever I encounter a 'serious error' I follow the link and it tells me exactly what has went wrong. It has usually been a driver issue for me, but I've also seen it because of overheating. You may want to check your temperatures at the time of one of these crashes to confirm. It will be in your BIOS if it supports this function.

    Go to Start-->Run.
    Type in eventvwr.msc and <enter>
Open up all the tabs on the left hand side, one after the other.
Check for Warnings or errors, about the time you had the trouble.
Double click on anything you thing relevant.
There will be a Description and probably a link for further info.
Follow the link, or post back here.

    Hope this assists. Bazza

Did you do a windows update just before you system started to crash. I think microsoft had a update out there that was bad. I have read a lot of posting trying to solve my server crashing and all of them have been around the same timing and about the same errors. Most deal with drivers and the kernal.

Microsoft has not responded with a fix yet but I think they know they have a problem. If you can back out the update, rollback any driver updates or get a firmware update (bios) from your computer manufacture, it helps to resolve most of the problems.
