The three minute wait (windows vista)

Three minutes people. I can get passed the windows logo sign fine but when it gets to my desktop all that's visable is the background, not even the toolbar. After everything loads onto my screen it takes even more time to click on something to open a program, this is ridiculous.

I'm working off of a HP Pavilion dv6565us, now the computer outer shell says dv6000 but the dxdiag and the serial code slapped on it says the right catalog #. The model hasn't been an issue, I just wanted to get the specs out

 

First step would be to check your start-up items. What do you have there?
You can check them in CCleaner Tools>Startup. Anything that you can start when you need it can be removed from your start-ups. Leave your AV, Firewall, and your resident malware apps there and also anything like your specialized audio or video drivers or controllers. Some AV apps, firewalls, and malware apps take a long time time to load, so you may consider getting a lighter, faster protection system.
It wouldn't hurt to also run the Cleaner and Registry options on CCleaner

Ok, throw that last complaint out the window, I backed up and restored my laptop. My next question is how do I lighten the work load on my comp by stopping unneeded processes on start up. I remember msconfig is a no no.
