This folder was created by stream ripper, and put on my desktop. I can't delete it. Here is what I tried:
cmd (both in safe mode and not)- I get the message similar to:
    cannot find file or folder

I tried an unlocker program, didn't work,

I can't rename the file and delete it

I can't find it in my registry

I have tried everything that the 10 google searches say to do for 'delete desktop folder vista cannot find specified file'

I don't really know what else to do, these files are bugging the crap out of me, and cluttering my desktop (yea there are 3 of them from the same station)

Please, any help would be appreciated.

    thanks

    system: compaq laptop
3 g mem, 200 HD, AMD Turion x2, etc (this isn't a hardware prob, so I will skip out on this)

    Vista Home
    Norton internet 360

Download and run THIS ZIP FILE. Inside it is a .reg file. It will add a very useful option to your Right-Click menu. After running the .reg file, restart and then right click on the culprit file, there will now be an option there with the Windows Security Center icon next to it that says Take Ownership. Click it and wait for it to finish, then try deleting with Unlocker 1.8.7.

Ok, I took ownership to all of them , Unlocker deleted one of them, but the other two could had no locking handles and could not be deleted. It asked me if I wanted to at restart, I said yes, and they are still there.

I could not rename or move them either.:confused

    any more suggestions?

You can try Spybot S&Ds secure shredder ... or CCleaners Include function. Here's the download links.

    Spybot S&D

    CCleaner

To use Spybot S&D, download, install, run, click Mode and select Advanced Mode. Then on the left there will be some tabs, select the Tools tab, and click on Secure Shredder. Then select Add Files to List and browser for and select the files in the folders. Down the bottom you will see a bar that says Number Of Passes. You can set it from 1 to 35 (the default being 6). 1 being the fastest but least secure and 35 being the slowest but most secure. After the files have been deleted, try using Unlocker to delete the files again.

To use CCleaner, download, install, run. On the left you will see some icons. Select Options, then Include. Then add the folders you wish to delete. Then select Settings, and under the Secure Deletion option, select Secure File Deletion. Again select 1 for least secure but fastest and 35 for most secure but slowest. Then select the Cleaner icon and on the deletion options on the left under the Advanced menu select Custom Files and Folders, then click Run Cleaner. It probably wouldn't hurt to run the Registry Cleaner afterwards as well. Remember to always back up the changes when it prompts you to. Then again, try to delete them normally. If normally does not work, try Unlocker again.

    Hi

Options to delete this errant file are,

    1. Pocket Killbox
    2. MoveOnBoot this one, once you dragNdrop the file or browse for its location, deletes the file on reboot, so any applications that have locked the file are not running so cannot lock it before deletion.

May need to as you have Vista run these applications by rightclicking their shortcut and choosing Run as Admin, plus also if the file doesnt delete in normal mode then boot into safe mode (F8 at boot) and try again.

And you have right clicked the desktop and clicked refresh?

You have also done a windows search for the file?

Have you done a reg search for it?

I did refresh the desktop to no avail.
Its funny, I did a windows search, I found the folders, and I tried to erase them from there, to no avail. (it says that the folder is no longer there, but there are contents in the folder, in fact, I can listen to the music in the supposedly empty folder. The path is the same for my desktop files)

i searched for 'french' in the registry, it brought up only language and region stuff for Windows.

This really sucks. It obviously isn't critical for me to get these off the system, but it is severely annoying.

I had 3 files on the desktop, and one of them got deleted with the Ownership program, but the other two are there and not wanting to leave.

    They are tricky little folders.

    Hi there,

I have the same problem, but with the difference that I can't see the files in the cmd window. "dir /x" seems to have the same function as the normal "dir". Anyway the folders, which can't be removed are not even displayed here. Because of that can't delete them. What can I do?

    Please help

    P.S.
There might be a connection with the system memory error "something". After ripping a radio stream with streamripper I didn't see any folders the next day. But then in the evening I had a bluescreen and the system rebooted. Then I had many folders, which I couldn't remove.
