I have several 7 bay Thecus N7700 Pro V2 NASs and I am thinking of updating the current 3TB drives to 5TB.
Does anyone from MGs have personal experience with the Toshiba 5TB or the HGST 5TB drives? I don't want to go on info from the salesman at my supplier as they just want to make a sale and reviews on the internet are not always credible. I have read a lot of reviews and cross reference lists compiled by drive testing websites but getting some personal experience information is of high valuable to me as this will be quite an investment.
According to the Thecus compatibility list both these brands of 5TB HDD are suitable so my questions are:-
These drives will be running 24/7 so in your experience are they reliable?
Has anyone had any issues with warranty?
One NAS is on a shelf above a desk in an office so are these drives noisy?
Cooling in summer is a bit of an issue here in Australia so does anyone know if they run hot?

Initially I would be buying 7 drives and if a success then I will get another 14 drives so I hope to leverage a good price from my supplier.

Over the past couple of years we have had issues with about half a dozen Seagate and Western Digital Enterprise drives needing replacement after only 2 years use. Both companies are happy to replace the drives but the time wasted rebuilding RAID arrays is the main concern. Hmmm... just heard the NAS beeping and I found another 3TB Seagate has dropped out on SMART so I removed and tested it and now I have started another RAID rebuild as it hasn't totally failed yet. Damn!!!

Pity you can't buy Samsung drives any more as we also have an old 6 bay Q-Nap NAS with Samsung 3TB Enterprise drives that have now been running 24/7 without any failures for about 7½ years. According to SMART the drives have been running for just over 67,500 hours.
    Cheers

RAID 5 with EXT4 and encryption.
One NAS is redundant and I can easily tolerate one drive failure per NAS. The Seagate drive failures are a good excuse to upgrade to bigger drives and means I can also gain some extra drive space at the same time.
When I have a drive failure I usually have a matching spare drive in the cupboard to swap in and then I rebuild the NAS while it stays online. I have never had a second drive fail during a rebuild after a single drive failure.........hmmm maybe I shouldn't have said that as it may be tempting fate <as he touches wood for luck>
