In display properties, within the themes and desktop section, there are photos I would like to delete.More so in desktop. 7 years worth. Over time of putting them in there I would like to now delete some of them. When I right click all I get is "what's this". Any simple programs? Use XP (home), SP3, IE7.Thanks for any answer.

    Greetings, Coffee Guy...

Why not just find the files and delete them? Most should be in the C:\Windows, C:\Windows\System or \System32, or C:\Windows\Program Files\Themes or \Plus!\Themes folders...

For instance: if a desktop background is named "Pinstripes", do a search for "Pinstripes", find the bitmap in C:\Windows, and delete it...

Hey, Caliban and Oma, thanks for getting back with some help. Was doing what you had said, and realized that it was also deleting the photo from my picture folder where I have photos of my kids and grandchild. Only did one, so not a big loss. Thought about it and moved the whole folder of my kids to "My Documents." Well that worked for me. Didn't have to do one at a time. So now they are not in the display properties any more. . It seems that there were other pictures that were in My Pictures that were also listed in the desktop display properties. So now another question. How do I prevent having the MY PIcture folder show up in desktop display properties. Maybe I'll just have to get used to changing where I put my photos and use the my documents folder instead of my pictures. So THANKS for your help. Is there an answer to my other question or --- "Forget about it ! " :-D

From the link I posted previously:
Once one adds ONE picture from the folder My Pictures, all other pictures in My Pictures Folder will be added into the display/background list.

I had the same problem as you had a long time ago and ended up setting up a new folder where I moved all my pictures to. That removed all pics from the display list. Then I removed all pics from the new folder back to My Pictures.

I think that if I want to set a picture as a background/wallpaper, I would make sure I don't pick it out from My Pictures, but rather from a folder by another name.

    I hope the above helps.

I believe that I did find a solution to the background/wallpaper issue in XP although it is a workaround. I've used this for many years and no additional pictures appear in the display list. All my pictures are in My Pictures folder!!

I downloaded Irfanview years ago and have been using that program to set pictures as wallpaper as well and it works for me. http://www.majorgeeks.com/IrfanView_d4253.html

    This is what I do:

Doubleclick on the picture I want to set as background/wallpaper. The picture appears in the Irfanview program.

    In Irfanview click on Options

    Set as Wallpaper>centered.

    That's all
In the display list the picture shows as Irfanview_Wallpaper. No additional pictures there.

I think the reason for no additional pictures appearing in the display list is because I don't use the IE context menu but only the Irfanview software program.

It's worth a try if you absolutely don't want any other pictures to appear in the display list other than the one you chose as background/wallpaper.

Most MG know that Irfanview can be used to produce attachments, cropping and many other goodies. Therefore to know that one can use this software also to bypass XP's display list is wonderful.

Give it a try and let me know will you? :) Thanks.

Oma, I too am an avid IView user, and have used its background routine, as well, but never realized it was circumventing the normal Windows routine - thx for pointing that out...for a free graphics program, IrfanView ceases to amaze me! ;)

Coffee Guy, glad you got it sorted, and good luck!

Yeah Caliban, I love Irfanview. I get quite a few PPS attachments from overseas and use PrintScr and IrfanView to get pics/wallpaper out of these often beautiful/curious attachments. Of course, only the ones I like best do qualify for that. Afterwards the PPS's get deleted to save some space. Irfanview can often be used as a video player with sound as well. The possibilities with this software are endless, especially with their plugins, but am not going too deep into it.

Hello there guys. Oma, I did download IrfanView. I'll have to put on my thinking cap and look that over. Untill I see if it'll work for me, I'm sticking with DeskSlide. Seems a lot easier for a guy like me. I've been retired now 7 years and looking for the easy way in my life to do "stuff". So, really, ( and I do mean it) THANKS for your response, and the rest of you who also responded .
