Not sure what it means as I have plenty.

What is the normal cause of this problem? And what information do you need? I'm on XP, Office 2007.

Any help is much appreciated. ^_^

    Hi

Few things can cause this from corrupted Office install, to a corrupted document file, do you have the Office CD/DVD handy?

Is this a new install of Office 2007 or has Office 2007 Word been working upto this point?

Try opening Word in its safe mode, click Start > Run and paste this line WINWORD.EXE /a if it works ok then likelyhood is a non compatible 3rd party add-on, this we can cross if Word works in its safe mode.

Also one thing to try is Office Diagnostics http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HA012340761033.aspx (can run this from any Office product)

I bought it online and downloaded it; it's been working fine for 3 months though. Already tried safe mode, same problem. Just tried other programs, same error comes up for all office programs (which means it won't open to let me use diagnostics).

    Hi

Try this and rename the normal.dotm template file and instructions are under this heading Global Template (Normal.dotm or Normal.dot) in this guide http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822005

If you still have the setup files, then uninstall and then run a cleanup with CCleaner and its Cleaner and Registry tools (run the registry one over again until nothing is listed) then reinstall Office 2007.

I've reinstalled it after doing what you said, and it's still saying the same thing. :(

    Hi

Previous issues with same, have been resolved with the recreation of the normal.dotm file or running disagnostics, so have to think you have something just installed that has caused this to now happen after 3 months of use.

    • Did you have another version of Office on your PC, if so what version and is it still installed or did you remove?

    • Goto Add or Remove Programs Click Microsoft Office XXXXXXXX 2007 ( XXX is your version of Office) and then click Change > Click Repair, and then click Continue, then reboot and see if Office works.
    • What Antivirus or security applications do you have installed? if Norton, then as its Office add-on has caused issues in the past similar to this, then disable its add-on, instruction here

    • Do you have the Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office system installed? if so uninstall it, reboot and check office.

    • When did this issue start? from the day of your post yesterday or further back in time? asking this as I have two other options, but rather see how the above goes first.
Please do one at a time and check Office for working properly.

My old harddrive failed, so I got this new one put in and everything from the old one moved over. The old one had office '03 with the compatibility pack installed, but I didn't have the '03 discs so I bought the '07. Will the compatibility pack have transferred too? I don't see any traces of it.

Repairing brings up the following error (as it did before I reinstalled, forgot to mention sorry!):http://img2.imageshack.us/img2/4934/sp3213042009122122.png

I don't use Norton, just AVG.

I haven't used office at all in the last 2 weeks but it was working the last time I tried it before Thursday.

Still not working; I've tried Support on the microsoft website but they need a product key that you get from menus inside word or excel - which I can't get to. Don't know what moron made their system require that. rolleyes Any more ideas here or advice on how to poke microsoft into helping me?

    Hi

Did this issue first occur after the move from the old drive to new and how or what did you move over, was it the Windows and System folders or just saved data files like my docs etc?

Did you also re-install Windows on that old HD that you put into the PC or just plugged it in from another Windows install and PC?

Did you uninstall Office 2003 from the old or now the newly installed HD before installing Office 2007?

Is Office 2003 still installed and working ok?

*just trying to get some info as to whats happened as it seems if transfering the old hd to the new PC and not reinstalling Windows it could have various old permissions or registry files etc that are stopping Office 2007 from opening, as not being infront of PC and wizzing through whats going on myself I rely on what you can tell me so as much as possible info is good.

Download and install this app http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html and please list what Office applications and versions it finds, dont remove anything just yet.

I'd uninstall both offices, search your computer for any traces of them and remove them, then search the registry also ... once complete re-install offfice 07 ....

My old HD failed so the repair company put a new one in; they asked me if my copy of Windows was legal, which it is, as apparently this allowed them to put it on for free. It came to me with nothing else installed; since it was only the bootable section of the old HD that failed, all the data on it was intact, so they managed to keep my My Documents etc. the same, but all my programs were lost, including office 2003. So I bought Office 2007 which worked fine for a couple of months. The error only occurred last week on this new HD. I had the compatibility pack for 2007 on it though.

Office 2003 has never been on my current HD unless files were copied over from the old one, but it was certainly never installed, and neither was the compatibility pack.

How do I use the program to list Office applications? This is all I can come up with:

Do you mean one partition of the drive failed and the other didn't?? Ive never seen that one before lol ... if it just had bad sectors they should have been able to use Norton Ghost to copy the drive ...

Its weird that you lost all of your programs then, generally Norton Ghost can save most of them ... so basically what your saying is, the techies saved your personal files, but put a fresh install on there and loaded everything from scratch? ... and milked you for every one of you pennys :p

    Hi Thomas

You answred my question and all you have is Office 2007 from what your saying on that Pc and from whats listed in Sys Info, Windows Installer wont do much to help here as Office 2003 is not installed.

At times kind of a mess to mix new user account with old account data unless transfered properly, but try this to see if its an account issue as to fix Office 2007 I've exhausted the tips I know (may need to search the net for answers for you) but create a new Admin account from Control Panel > User Accounts and make sure its an Admin one and then reboot and see if Office works or even re-install it in that account.

Well it works on the new admin account. It did work when I first got it home from the HD change though. Clearly not an issue then (as long as it doesn't break again in a few weeks rolleyes).

Many thanks to Drizzles and especially Halo. :)
