My computer has started running REALLY hot (thermal event shutdowns) when trying to watch Flash videos. It seems others have been experiencing issues with the latest Flash being a resource hog as well. I posted in the malware forums and I think we can rule that out. I tried I8kfan (temps get 80+ C with flash videos running and fan on max, my processor has a 100 C T-junction) and it has helped considerably, but I would rather get to the root of the problem. Other than the heat issue, my computer has acted normal. The fan seems OK, so I'm afraid it could be a capacitor or a thermal paste issue. I can't get into that with my laptop, I afraid. Not sure what's going on, but I would definitely appreciate some help.

    Hi

Are these Flash videos ones that are downloaded onto your PC or are they being viewed in a browser window?

Could you also give us some info on your Windows version and Service Pack as well as are all your drivers and Flash, Java Runtime etc versions upto date?

I would if you are using IE, try Firefox and load the Firefox version of Flash HERE and try the videos again.

As another thought, when playing the videos, disable your antivirus software first and see if that helps, you can also use Process Monitor to see whats using CPU % up when the videos are playing as this may help narrow down the offending app.

Thanks. These are being veiwed in the browser window. I have Windows 7 Professional. Java 6 update 23, Flash 10.2 beta (tried after my problem began with 10.1...seems a little less resource hungry). I use Comodo, which is pretty resource friendly. I keep Windows Update on. My CPU goes from 5-10% at idle, and over 60% when watching Flash videos. The bigger thing is the CPU goes from 40C to 80C, and feels hotter than it used to. Really, anytime my computer is using over 50% it is getting very hot, not just when using Flash. Maybe I should add that I recently upgraded to 4GB of RAM, but I don't think that is when this started. Thanks.

OK. Things are out of hand now. I went ahead into my laptop against my best instincts. I found the culprit of the heat...about 5 years worth of nasty dust in my fan exhaust. Well, I reassembled the computer and now the monitor does not turn on. Moving it to a new thread.

    Hi

No dont think that addition of RAM was the culprit also, as you seems to have cleaned alot of dust from the laptop I would suspect the issues is dust and heat, and will review you other thread on this as this one is finished.
