    Hi

I will be looking to order some thermal compound this week, for 2 cpu's
(p4 1.4 423 and a p4 2.8 478) just wondering what the current line of thinking is in regards to what is on this page ?

I'm leaning towards the 'Arctic Silver Ceramique' but there are a couple of other choices

was planning on getting the 'Arctic Silver ArctiClean (60ml Kit)' as well, does anyone have any experience with this ?

    Thanks for looking :)

I've always used arctic silver with good success :) They make a great thermal paste.

I use AS Ceramique and find it works very well on my o'ced SanDiego 4000+ running at 2.88Ghz. It keeps the cpu temp at very acceptable levels, idle 36C & load 48-49C (during summer months).

Personally, I found Ceramique to be easier to remove and as it is not condutive less chance of any issues.

I did test the AS5 but found no difference in cpu tests. Can't comment on the Artic Alumina Ceramic in terms of performance but on the face of it it appears to be a higher performance version than the basis Ceramique.

Remember that even the best thermal paste will have very limited impact if your case is poorly cooled.

    Good Luck

Thanks for the replies guys :)

Planning on ordering tomorrow, so all input is appreciated

Personally I have found that a q-tip, 90% alcohol, and lots of time and patience, can remove any cooling paste, including a too thick layer applied over three years ago... (I take full responsibility for that one. Poor abused CPU.)

    Anyways.

Arctic Silver 5, and very fond of it. Combine it with a Coolermaster case and and extra fan and the computer might radiate lots of heat, but the CPU stays at a very comfortable temperature.

Ive spent the last 2 or 3 hours trying to find good comparisons for the 2 products I am the most interested in

    Arctic Silver Ceramique
    &
    Arctic Cooling MX2

About all I have learned is that the majority of review sites either plagiarize each other, are run by the same people or will say whatever they are paid to :(

From what I can gather 'Alumina' is meant to be a cheap alternative to 'silver' - not quite sure how that works when it costs more in the link that I initially posted :D

    Arctic silver 5 is non-conductive (kind-of rolleyes)
    http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm
"Not Electrically Conductive: Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity. (While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)

When it comes down to it there appears to only be a 2º - 4º Celsius difference under load between the 'silver', 'ceramique' & MX2 anyway.

Still have no idea at all how the 3 compare to each other though.

I took too long and the shops are now shut, so I will order one of them randomly in the next couple of hours, and may receive it before the weekend if I'm lucky.

Thanks for that, due to a lack of consistent info I just 'played it safe' and went with the ceramique & the Arcticlean

I am a 'fan' of arctic coolings products in general though.

All done :dancer temp has dropped 5 degrees celcius (straight away)

The ceramique is a bit sticky for my liking makes it hard to get just the right amount on the heat-spreader

The Arcti-clean is great stuff, easy to use and works really well :)
