I'm trying to boot thinkcentre A50 from CDs that I burnt on this computer. The CD drive does not appear in Setup (says "disabled") or in F12 boot order. Help!

This statement makes no sense and with the information provided we will not be able to help. We need more detail about what you are trying to do, how far in the process you can get, and specifics about any error messages etc

OK, sorry. I burnt recovery DVDs using the IBM recovery disk utility, which lets you burn one set of CDs or DVDs which wipe the HD clean and restore its content to the state it was when when the computer left the factory.

In "Boot Order" in the setup program which appears with F1 at startup, the CD drive was listed as "disabled", and the model number was not even shown.

In the one-time boot selection feature (F12 at startup), the CD drive was not even listed.

In any event, I've already found what the problem was: the CD/DVD drive that was connected (there are 2 in this computer, and for some reason only this drive was connected) was not being recognized by the Setup program, which I suppose expresses the BIOS (please note that I'm not a professional service tech., am just trying to fix a computer for a friend). When I connected the other CD drive in place of the former, it came up in the Setup program like it should.

    Thanks for your time.
