i think i might get my self a RC chopper or plane. its gonna have to cost a grand total of nomore thin $300 for radio and all. i was wondering if someone here knew of a good site for buying this type of stuff. if i get a chopper i was thinking of getting one that looks like Airwolf or a Huey. and if i go for a Airplane i was thinking about one that looks like a Cessna 152 or a 182. is there anyone here that can help me out?:)

BTW it dont matter if its Gas or Batt powered

Have you ever flown any of them? If not, I would start with a plane, maybe a small trainer or something. It takes awhile to get the hang of it.

A chopper is tough to learn on. I have a friend that has been flying the planes for years and he recently just bought a chopper http://h1070180.hobbyshopnow.com/products/description.asp?prod=EFLH1100&tag=dpp and it took him awhile to even just get it up. I guess it is different for some people.

One thing he did find out is if you get a chopper, be sure to get the "crash kit" with it, very handy when learning. The hobby shops he checked wanted to charge you extra for it but if you order it online it comes with it.

Second what matacumbie said,at a club near to me you arnt allowed to fly a chopper until you'v been certified to fly a plane

Personally I'd rather play with razor blades than fly a chopper, your controlling a flying lawnmower blade one good gust of wind and you lost your head:eek: until you'v watched one flying at head height it can be hard to understand, try it at a local club ;)

And then theres the cost, your gonna crash it,everyone crashes thier first and they're freakin expensive to fix get a ripmax trainer plane first, slow, lots of lift, low stall speed a cheapo

And remember I'v just gone right I must go left ;)

I would pick up any of the 'cheap' park fliers out there. Both plane and helo. They are pretty inexpensive and can take a bunch of abuse. The only down side of the planes is a lot of times you have to throw them to actually get them airborn.

RC planes are much easier to control than helicopters. I used to fly RC (plane only), but watched the struggles of the new chopper pilots learning to control them. Just hovering successfully is an accomplishment. The normal progression is to tackle a helicopter only after you get bored with the fixed wings and want a new challenge. In either case, you'll do best by getting involved with a flying club that can help you get started. I recommend starting with a sturdy trainer, and take all the advice and help you can get. Nothing worse than getting overeager and demolishing your shiny new toy before you learn to handle it.

i use to have a gas rc plane with a 72inch wingspan it was easy to fly only thing that was bad about it was the old the remote for it was a big white box with one big joystick lol

like i said i am thinking about getting me another one. does not mean i will. but if i do i will get myself another big plane and i will spend more thin what i said but that means i will have to save alot of money lol. if and when i get one i think i will paint it the MG way ;)

but if i go with a chopper i will have to go the Airwolf way lol

Thanks everyone for the info :)

The hobby shop where we fight our robots deals in all forms of RC, including choppers. The warehouse is big enough to fly them indoors, so people do when the carpet racers aren't around (this building has 2 race tracks, both large, a clay track and a carpet track, along with a 24' x 24' fighting arena, a small combat arena, and slot cars.

Nowdays the trend is all electric, the motors and batteries being light and powerful enough to support this. I am told by the helecopter guys that it is pretty cheap, and easy to fix. There is a class of electric RC planes (the serious one, not the kiddie toys) that is all sheet styrophome that the guys like to helicopter, raise the plane to the verticle and support it by the prop alone. I don't see how they can do it, but they obviously have full control. When they are through they either bring it to verticle and land it or snag it out of the air by hand.

That model was a lot bigger than what I was talking about. Same trick though. The small planes I was seeing didn't spin, wondered about that at the time. One of the guys at my robotics club invented something called a dragonfly, uses 4 motors/props the the end of 4 booms (in a + configuration). He used a helicoptor micro gryro to keep it horizontal, so it is easy to fly. I'm amazed at both the motors and the batteries powering them.
